I think you are right. For myself, I am looking into the sea steading idea.
However the news from Egypt is encouraging. I am still optimistic about NH as well.
Guys like Zhwazi surprise me. He reminds me of the traitor character in the first Matrix film. How can someone who knows the simple truths of liberty suddenly want collectivism?

His views are probably different to yours because he didn't *stop* thinking when he heard the "simple truths of liberty."

    * “Mubarak kept the peace treaty”: So, what do you think, if the Egyptian people choose another government, they will go to war with Israel?  Maybe they will demand a few more things from Israel in how they negotiate with the Palestinians.  Maybe Gazans will get better treatment?  Maybe the balance of power will not be tipped over to Israel?  Egypt protests: Israel fears unrest may threaten peace treaty.   Hmm, so we should support the oppression of 80 million Egyptians for a false stabilization?

    * “If they get Democracy they will elect extremists”.  Imagine if the world said that about America.  The Tea Party threatens world stability, as did the Bush administration.  How would you like if others used that as a threat to support an autocrat who made all opposing parties illegal?  In truth, US politics threaten world stability more than Egypt does.  Second, the implication is that democracy is not to be trusted in the hands of “certain” nations, people and religions is offensive, racist and ignorant.  You do not claim to value human rights, democracy and freedom and then you make exclusions based on race, nationality and religion.  Don’t say this shit.

Those aren't self evidently stupid things to say, at least not in the same league as the rest.

Yes they are.  In the past week a lot of motivations have been foisted on Egyptians.  I haven't heard anyone actually on the ground say anything but, "Mubarak must go."  Note, that is very different from, "Mubarak must be replaced."

Terrorcrats are falling all over themselves to get in front of this bandwagon, but they don't (or refuse to) understand that it is hundreds of thousands of people standing in the cradle of civilization clamoring for the evolution.
you just said a whole lot of nothing

Next time I will use small words, just for you. ;-)

Your second paragraph was a whole lot of nothing, the first one was just wrong, "Mubarak must go" just means "we haven't decided who we want to replace him with", not "ooh, we are suddenly flowery anarchist types for no discernable reason."

General / Re: Vaccines
« on: January 31, 2011, 08:49:10 PM »
Sure it should be voluntary, but if you spread a virus that hurt others by refusing a vaccine, you should be held accountable for assault.

How can these so called "hurt" people get a virus if they got the vaccine to prevent them from getting it? Isnt it their responsibility to protect themselves from a virus, if in fact all you have to do is get the vaccine to prevent it? Or are we saying that maybe vaccines dont always work?

Uh, yeah, vaccines don't always work. That's why it's important that a fair number of people have them.

and what point is that?

Just guessing, but something along the lines of "we're in charge and if you want out of jail you'll need to do what we say."

Only if it's mother is Jewish, or it has gone thru a formal conversion with a conservative/orthodox rabbi. Those are the only ways to be Jewish.

Cool, except impossible. The definition of combustion is a reaction oxygen and carbon are  fuels, and the byproducts are heat and water. At least thats what I learned in high school chem.

Um, either you or your chemistry teacher was confused.

It is possible for something to be immoral, for the perpetrator to deserve - and get - justice, for the person(s) whose property was impacted to receive restitution... and for me to think the perp(s) are hella cool.

Yes, but you'd be wrong about the perps... kinda

While private companies that cut off wikileaks funding were not inititiating force by doing so, chances are good they've done something else that really was initiating force so fuck 'em.

And you've never initiated force yourself? We should not condemn these companies on what they might have done in other, unrelated instances. The fact is they aren't doing anything wrong; they are merely refusing services.

Oh they're definitely doing something 'wrong' it might well be the only thing they can do as a result of the decision making structure of the organisation, but it's definitely wrong.

If you do not obey the whims of your masters, the government, you will be punished as they see fit. You cannot own anything the government cannot take away.

That's been true of essentially everyone in history limited only be extreme isolation and technological limitations. Yet for some reason "slavery" has remained a distinct concept. As in you are under the direct control of one master who can dispose of you as he sees fit whether or not you do as he says, with not only no repercussions but no possibility of any repercussions. The only thing that comes remotely close is a direct encounter with a police officer and even that is somewhat moderated and temporary.

Another notion on slavery compared to taxes is a little numbers game. Prior to the American Civil War (or as I like to call it, the Secession War), an estimated 60% of the Southern states' population were slaves. Looking at that to be approximately 30% of the total population of the USA, they were 100% enslaved. After slavery has been abolished, the average tax rate on people nationwide, which we have no say in, are imposed on us without our consent (except those who passively consent by saying/doing nothing about it), and will be imprisoned while "forfeiting" all we own if we refuse, is 30-40%. That means 100% of the people are now 30-40% enslaved. Slavery never went away, it just became more "fair."

30-40% taxes are not equivalent to being 30-40% enslaved. This kind of thing just destroys the meaning of the word.

Vote, don't vote, it doesn't really matter. The President is picked by the Illuminati, so your vote doesn't really matter. Except maybe so you can say "Well, I didn't vote for him."

Oh fun.

The Show / Re: Criticism of Death Penalty Argument
« on: January 18, 2011, 01:42:49 PM »
OP is correct. Additionally, even if you could somehow correct for all the other variables in society high crime rates might just as easily be a factor in promoting support for the death penalty rather than the other way around.
