I'm personally not interested in seeing the lewd and completely unnecessary avatar that Ed has thankfully gotten rid of.  I would hope that people have more common sense than to put that up as an avatar on this board.  You can always solve the problem by not showing avatars or signatures (or by blocking people).  I spent a long time with signatures disabled because I found quite a few of them annoying and too distracting.

Also, if you have Firefox with the Adblock (Plus) extension, you can actually block any specific image, so you could block Ed's avatar without blocking everything else.
