Yeah, I suspect you would have made more money by telling those 20th century middlemen to go fuck themselves and distributing it yourself. But I got my copy at PorcFest...

I  agree.  Slap it on a website and offer paypal or any other checkout option.  I somehow missed getting it at PorcFest and use none of those services.

Oh well, as they say, you can't please all the people all the time. :)

General / Re: This almost makes me want to watch an actual NASCAR race

Bristol Motor Speedway is one of the more exciting NASCAR races.  The rest of the races tend to be long, boring, and too drawn out.  Truck races are fun though.

NHRA and drag racing in general is much more fun, or even World of Outlaws.  of course, I'm talking out my ass except for NHRA because I've been to the Gatornationals in Florida the last two years.  Best weekend you'll ever have.  Everyone is friendly.

All of my uncles have been to NASCAR, Indy, and NHRA events and would rather spend the money on getting to and attending an NHRA event then NASCAR. You can't make movies out of drag racing, but it's not really something that comes across on camera.  Hard to simulate your chest cavity feeling like it's caving in for a second after the cars take off depending on how close you are.

Governments are the only thing that keeps poor people poor and rich people rich.  Voting in this case is a part of government.

Drag Racing

NHRA...IHRA...motorcycle, funny car, dragster.  It's all awesome.  You will also lose your hearing if you stand next to one while the drive lightly taps the gas pedal while in the pit.

Doesn't even begin to portray what it's like in person.  The amount of teamwork that is required is insane, and every team is competitive but I have never heard a team bash another team.  Hell some of them share strategies.  Most "libertarian" sport I can think of.

Non-violent unless the driver crashes:

Edited to fix YouTube embeds

Yeah I just found the write-up by L. Neil Smith to be utterly confusing as hell, completely NOT liberty-minded, and a holier-than-thou attitude.  Everyone is equal.  No one is better than anyone else.

General / Re: Astrobiology: Liquid Water Yet No Oxygen?
« on: July 19, 2010, 12:20:04 PM »
Just an FYI, water is H2O.  2 parts Hydrogen and one part Oxygen.  Without oxygen, you just have hydrogen.  What they're referring to isn't water and cannot scientifically be water without oxygen.  It can be a liquid, but not water.

An easy solution?

Edit your hosts file

In Windows:
http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/
Quote
#<shortcut-examples>
# As well by specifying the ipaddress of a server, you can gain access
#   to some of your favourite sites with a single letter, instead of
#   using the whole domain name
# It is perhaps a better solution to use Favourites/Bookmarks instead.
216.34.181.45   s        # slashdot.org
64.233.187.104   g        # google.com
#</shortcut-examples>

In Linux:
http://www.faqs.org/docs/securing/chap9sec95.html
Quote
208.164.186.1      deep.openna.com       deep
208.164.186.2      mail.openna.com       mail
208.164.186.3      web.openna.com       web

So on my systems with linux I'd save in my /etc/hosts file:
Code: [Select]
208.94.147.65         amazon.freetalklive.com          amazon

And then I'd technically be able to just type in amazon in my browser and it should connect to amazon.freetalklive.com

Not a pretty solution, but better than a browser add-on.

LRN.FM - The Liberty Radio Network / Re: Suggestion for a show on LRN
« on: July 14, 2009, 01:52:21 PM »
Yeah, Adam Curry is also the jerk running Mevio (formerly Podshow) cheating people in his network out of their content, stealing content from people not in his network, and generally being douchey.

If you want real liberty oriented shows for LRN, go get Jimmy Doane.  Hilarious and informative, always liberty oriented.  Also, Libertarian Dime runs a tight ship with regular postings, though generally liberty-oriented, host Shane Brady does happen to support courts and guns deciding what is and is not true (I'm doing my best to show him why he's wrong).  Cato has a daily podcast which is liberty-minded in a limited/constitutional government way.  Econ talk is excellent, regular, and educational.  While not strictly liberty-oriented, Russ Roberts is distinctly pro-market and often talks about public choice theory (the principal/agent problem at the heart of government's inability to function) and is great background for any liberty minded person to have when trying to communicate with statists.  Freedom watch has an audio podcast...  Just a few ideas.

After they moved to twice a week, the shit stopped being funny.  All they do is whine and carry on about conspiracy crap that doesn't do anything.  I do like Dvorak because he seems a little bit more level-headed, especially on some of the other podcasts he's been on.  Not saying he's right, but at least he provides substance.  I noticed the No Agenda show really took a hit when Curry announced his divorce, the show just has outright sucked the last month or so.

Thanks Ian and Mark for not listening to my bad advice :P  I second the Freedom Watch audio podcast idea.

>>>The fact is, without the government having as much power as they do, corporations wouldn't have the power that they do.  Never mind that the very existence of corporations in itself is a fucking sham set up so that the people who start them and run them can do anything they want without personal liability because the government allows a public company to exist as it's own entity.  Therefore, not one person is accountable for the company unless there is a financial issue.  Even then, they'll just suffer some headaches, but none of their personal artifacts get touched.

Can you give me an example of some sort of scenario for which you'd like to hold someone in the corporation personally responsible? In this scenario, specify specifically who you would want to hold responsible.

The owners of the corporations vote and elect the board of directors of the corporation, who subsequently vote and appoint the officers of the corporation, who then make the decisions for the corporation. If you are trying to hold those who take actions for the corporation, responsible for their actions, then there is no clear line of responsibility back to the corporate owners, or even the board of directors. It would be completely arbitrary to hold a minority shareholder responsible for the decisions of the corporation, most decisions of which, he won't even be aware of. Likewise, even those on the board of directors probably won't be involved with the day to day operations of the corporation. Who, for instance, would you hold responsible for the Exxon Valdez oil spill?

What we have today, is a system where the corporation is held financially liable for mistakes made by corporate personnel, and officers are personnally held criminally liable for their decisions. This is the only way you can do it, if you want to assign responsibility to the actors, and not the owners and directors who may not be involved in the day to day decisions of the corporation, or who may even disagree with many decisions the corporation makes.

Simple solution?  Dissolve the stock market and don't allow publicly owned companies.  That's what started this whole mess, among other things.

Are you out of your fuckin' mind?

Evidently yes.

I just have a very bad seething hate for anything related to the stock market and how manipulated it is and how all companies on the stock market have stopped giving a crap about their customers and only care about money.  Greedy fucks.

General / Re: What torrent tracker should we use?

They plan to pull all pirate stuff from the site and only offer paid-content.

Omg, the evil fucking bastards! I pirate because there is no way for me to pay for the films and TV shows I like. Why you guys over there, with your Netflix and your Hulu and your whatnot would prefer to pirate, I have no idea. The moral thing to do is to pay for the entertainment you appreciate.

I tend to agree with you, HOWEVER....in the case of the music industry (and to a lesser extent the movie industry), the crap far outweighs the good stuff that is being put out.  This is no different than making a tape in the 80's and passing it to friends.  Nothing is stopping anyone from paying for the stuff.  The Recording industry makes more money on a CD sale than the artist does.  It costs $10 + to see a movie in the theater and $20 to own it.  With the crap that gets churned out, I can see why so many people pirate.  There's countless examples of artists who have gone to providing their stuff online for free and also offered pay or donate versions and have made more money than if they just stuck to CD's.

Just found out about http://openbittorrent.com/

Read more about it here: http://torrentfreak.com/openbittorrent-tracker-muscles-in-on-the-old-pirate-bay-090705/

I think this might be an even better solution.
