Didn't someone point out that the Patriot act was going to be used to quash political free speech?
I would post a youtube but for some reason no one seems able to sum up the point in less than 9 min. of video.   Really what the hell is with the fact youtube posters seem incapable of editing.

It took the impending death of updates on my XP to get me to give Linux another go.  Glad I did as my pathetic old laptop simply wasn't going to be up to the task of handling W7.  It was the fastest install of an OS I have ever done.  I didn't have to hunt down a single driver everything just worked.  The only draw back is my Ipod was rendered useless as it refuses to work with Linux.   Also I am just not motivated enough to bother to get it to work.

Finally there are some Linux distributions which more than satisfy my simply computing needs.
So Gates can kiss my ass for now.  If I do win the lottery or some other source of funding becomes available my preference would be to get an Apple.

I am very grateful for Linux as it has saved my laptop from the junk heap.   Just as age of xp ends for this laptop a new age of Linux begins.

I am surprised about the oil consumption.  Japan has a fantastic public transportation system.  Well it use to prior to the quake.

Also a little surprise there are no American casualties.  Japan has several US bases.  Possible the lack of foreign casualties is due to the fact the main part of the tsunami hit a farming district as opposed to a tourist area.

If any country could handle quake damage to a nuke plant it would be Japan.  Mostly because Japan is plagued with quakes and builders always make that a consideration in their constructions.
If a quake like that hit New York most of the buildings would be flattened and the death totals would be considerably higher.

It is a crime to tell someone they have "a dirty Jew face" in France.

Quote
John Galliano's troubles may have multiplied over the weekend as a second complaint of alleged anti-Semitism was formally lodged against Dior's chief designer – and a bombshell video surfaced showing the designer declaring: "I love Hitler."

Though none of those allegedly on the receiving end of Galliano's outbursts are, in fact, Jewish, under French law the making of anti-Semitic remarks qualifies as "incitement to racial prejudice," a criminal offense that potentially carries a sentence of up to six months in prison.
Galliano was drunk off his face when he made the statement and there was no context to the video.  It could have been a sad attempt at making fun of NeoNazis for all anyone knows and selective editing was possibly being used to ruin his career.  At least freedom of speech is one of the few freedoms left in the USA.
The state doesn't need to step in for such statements.  The social pressure of the people who will refuse to purchase from him or his employer firing him is more than sufficient punishment.

I wonder if Cambodians are as touchy about Pol Pot.

That would be interesting to know.  Pol Pot was every bit and much a bastard as Hitler.  Didn't Pol Pot say something like a bullet is cheaper than keeping a prisoner?  Even so Vietnam was another war the USA had no business getting involved with.

Vaccine supporters have a difficult time if they are for freedom and corporate responsibility explaining why this ruling isn't counter to both of those concepts.

Many vaccines are valuable.  However, it is also possible that they are overused and causing problems.  There are adverse reactions and complications up to and including death.  It is near impossible to get a report posted to the federal adverse reactions list much less bring a case.  Why, because Doctors are so indoctrinated to never question vaccination as a cause of any adverse reactions.  Federal vaccine court is firmly in the pocket of the vaccine producers and pushers.

A double blind study was done on dogs and it bolstered the argument that over vaccination can be harmful.  A similar study of humans has been rejected even after being requested for decades.

What really sucks is that these bastards are going to go to club fed or some other minimum security prison if they get convicted of anything.  And they won't get any significant time and it won't affect their careers.  Bet they won't even lose their license to practice law.

Justice would be big boy time in a real prison where relatives of their victims can exact some pay back.  I for one don't want them shot that would be too good for them.

Sadly people are screaming this all happened because prisons were privatized.  The reality is even in a public prison contractors make big money off public prisons.  Also there are kickbacks to getting plum positions even in the state run facilities.  Public prison guard unions are a major political force and love the three strikes laws and mandatory minimums as it equals more jobs.  Public or private our prison system is a mess.

Not an easy job by any means...

Mark might argue this point.

Sales are way more difficult than speaking your opinion.
