General / New Hampshire Property Taxes %$*@P!
« on: April 22, 2009, 04:22:05 AM »
Okay, someone who understands New Hampshire Property taxes please answer this question.  What the hell is going on?  A home on the eastern side of New Hampshire which costs the exact same as a home on the western side of New Hampshire has property taxes which are twice as high.  Aren't the property taxes based on a percentage of the home's value?  Wouldn't those percentages be the same if it is a state property tax?

Not a lie I was looking up a home on the Eastern side of the state which was priced at 130,000.  The property taxes were listed slightly over 5k a year.  I look at a few comparables on the western side and the property tax is like 2k.  Maybe it is just me but $415.00 per month is a major deal breaker.

Another stupid thing I am running into during my search are homes that you can only live in 3 season.  Is that a recommendation or a law?  Just wondering if they are saying 3 season due to a lack of insulation and the buyer could upgrade the home to year round?

General / Ron Paul Granny Warriors are in NH For the Debate Tuesday
« on: June 05, 2007, 01:06:02 AM »
I really did not think that they could make the trip. The North Carolina State Republican Convention was this weekend.  But they surprised even me and took off to NH for the Debates.   Y'all be nice to them you hear.  The Granny wagon is very hard to miss.

Check this out!!!!!
Granny Warrior News
News from The Road:NC Republican Convention: With some problems the convention table got set up and we had a good turn out for Friday. We could not be there for Saturday as we had to get on the road for New Hampshire. The People who were supposed to take care of the table decorations and manning the floor had other more pressing engagements to attend to but Bette Smith did a great job getting everything in order even before we arrived. Jay our new Granny and I got stuck in traffic for miles and miles with road construction but we got there about 11 clock to find Bette already going strong. The people there were very interested in Ron Paul, they took a lot of flyers and DVDs so they will be more informed for the primarys.

One fellow came over talking to us and we of course mentioned we were going to New Hampshire, he said he was too so I offered to share a ride for him in the Freedom Wagon.. seems like he already had a ride, he was Gilbert another candidate for President. I nearly fell out. poor guy no one was visiting his table all day long but he was a very nice congenial man.

Looking from the main conference entry. Cant miss Rons smiling face.

Some really interesting people visited our table.

We left NC late Friday night, about 10 PM and headed towards New Hampshire. It wasnt long before we decided to get some rest, all of us were bushed. The next morning we felt more like driving and made good time. The only problems we ran into was Bettes arm got tired of honking back at the many many people who would come by the RV and Honk.. It was great. Late in the afternoon Jay went back to the bedroom to catch some sleep so we could drive all night but soon came out yelling Gheesh make those people stop honking.. he got no rest what so ever due to the horns blowing at us. It was great and shows us that most of America are ready for a change. Tired of the baloney our government is pushing on us and evidently like Ron Paul.

US Army Convoy loved Ron Paul
We passed a convoy of Army guys who went wild yelling and whoo whooing, this is the only photo we could get of them that turned out at all.. We were going too fast for the camera.

Of course I did most of the driving. lol

Our most frequent chore. Putting more money into the oil company's pockets

When we arrived at Manchester and the debate site there were hundreds of Hillary and Obama and John Edwards supporters. The could only see the front end of the RV coming at them and started whooping and screaming like we were there for them ....until they saw Ron Paul on the side... It was so funny their faces looked like someone had hit them with a pie.

As you can see the weather is awful, rain and cold. The furnace has been going all night and the wind and rain is getting steadily worse but hopes are that tomorrow it will be sunny and warmer. The RV did great all the way up here, not a problem until about 60 miles out when we started getting a shimmy in the front end. It shook so much it shook the computer out of the closet, crashed it on the floor. The monitor was busted beyond repair I thought until Jay picked up the pieces and started redoing them. Thankfully the thing works great and we have communication available onboard again.

We have a appointment with the RV Repair shop for Wednesday for repairs and will limp around town for today and tomorrow. Right now we are in the wall mart parking lot and getting a lot of attention right here. Bette is labeling DVDs and Jay is burning them. Buddy is being a referee.
AND OF COURSE I AM WORKING HARD...

To make sure we are able to stay on the road and continue to work to get a decent honest candidate elected ( Ron Paul of course) please help us out. If everyone of you would just donate $10.00 each month we would have very little problem in continuing our work. Ron Paul is the only chance we feel that this country has to remain free and secure. Please consider helping our country and your family stay free. We are doing all we can to make people aware of the problems we have in this country can you help us? Will you help us? Everyone can afford $10.00 a month and it would buy 3 gallons of gas for us to keep on the road handing out more information and talking to people.

This is not fun folks, it is hard hard work. We do have fun but it is a continous chore to stay happy and up beat all the time. It is easier when we are not worried about where the next gallon of gas is coming from.

I couldn't recode their paypal link  for the bbs but you can go to their paypal link on their main page http://www.grannywarriors.com

General / Alright Bitches Here we Come Columbia May 15
« on: May 07, 2007, 06:07:45 PM »
Now the mass media has gone and done it they have pissed off the elderly.  Warrior Grannies are organized and highly motivated mostly old school style but they found their way on to the net with help.  Now grassroots meet the internet super hwy and the rubber hits the road.

The warrior Grannies are on their way and will be bringing 1000, We The People, John Locke Foundation, Taxpayers of America and Ron Paul Meetup members to converge on Columbia, SC to support Ron Paul.
http://www.grannywarriors.com/south.htm

This is a link to their main site if you scroll down you can get a look at the Warrior Granny RV.  Talk about dedication to a cause.  They have brought this debate to the heart of the Rebel South, I can only hope there is enough of the Rebel spirit left in the South to fight for Ron Paul.

The Polling Pit / Sewage Treatment Questions.
« on: February 16, 2007, 07:01:20 PM »
BACKGROUND
Mega Corporation got the government to transfer massive tracks of farm land to build a Nuclear Power plant and cooling water lake.  The original plan 30 years ago was to build 4 towers however they have only been able to build one.  Several areas of the farm land once taken are now nothing but clay and rocks  no trees or no plans to make into any kind of habitat.   Now today the area has developed and loads of people have moved into huge housing developments that want to hook those developments into a sewage treatment facility.  They put pressure on two local towns to look for a location for a new sewage plant.  The city boards requested EPA to do site surveys.  EPA engineers told them the best site was part of the previously condemned land given to mega corporation because the effluent would go into a lake that isn't being used as a drinking water source.  The second choice was a family farm in a small town with community surrounding it.  And the plant effluent would go into the water table near a major source of county drinking water. The town boards voted to use the family farm due to mega corporations objections at having land that was given to them using government force might be turned back to government use.

Here is the question is there a Libertarian solution to getting the sewage treatment plant moved to the previously taken land?

On a similar note another question I am struggling with and I have seen this as a problem in New Hampshire.  Clear cutting of mountain land to build up residential property that without the anchor of old growth trees after several years could become nothing more than a hazardous mud slide area.  By the time these flaws come to light the developer is long dead and beyond a legal remedy.  Situations like this are typically used as reasons for zoning requiring only one residence on a large piece of land.  Is there a Libertarian solution for this situation?

General / Protest the IRAQ WAR on the Mall in DC
« on: January 12, 2007, 12:55:54 PM »
Several anti-war Libertarian groups will be participating in the Iraq War Protest in Washington scheduled for January 27, 2007.
The last Saturday in January it will run from as early as you can get there until darkish.  Trust me you don't want to be in that area of town after dark.

This is a multiple group protest so yes there will be loads of anti-war socialist and other confused people who might attempt to attach there political passion to what is suppose to be purely an Anti-Iraq War demonstration.  But don't let them get to you.  We are currently working with other Libertarians who will be representing the Libertarian anti-war position.  So far it looks like there will be 20 just from our area making the trek northward.

Plans are in the works to arrange a meeting places so we can march as one large group of just Libertarians.
If someone is familiar with the DC underground and can suggest a good meetup location pm me and I will pass the suggestion along.  We expect to have approximately 35 to 50 people but the event itself will attract thousands from across the country.

Also, on this thread I am taking suggestions for War protest signs.

So far

*  WAR=BAD    or similarly   WAR a very very very BAD IDEA

*  USA Out of IRAQ NOW

*  George W. Bush Just Another Socialist for WAR.

General / Anti-War Animation free for distribution
« on: January 01, 2007, 11:11:40 PM »
This taken from the Vietnam era but it is interesting and relevant to all wars.  It is also free for distribution.  I don't see anyreason why anyone couldn't adapt the story and update it with a new animation for the Iraq war.

General / New Name for the Libertarian Party
« on: December 20, 2006, 08:35:38 AM »
I nominate the Independence Party as the name change for the Libertarian Party.
It would be IND on the ballot and many people consider themselves to be Independents which is a very bankable tie in.  Unfortunately, it is very doubtful there will be a name change because it would never meet the 7/8ths or some other impossible requirement to get the change passed.  Because there are enough in the LP that are married to the Libertarian name and have no desire for the LP to actually win elections.  Also there is the small problem of states that have ballot access requirements.  Most of their signature gathering has been done in the LP name and it is doubtful that the state boards of election will allow the current signatures to count towards any name change.  So most likely this is an exercise in shits and giggles.  Please feel free to submit your name suggestions for the LP.

Yes, I know I am way behind on my podcast listening as I have had a financial emergency and have needed to work on making money.

General / College Libertarian Group needs a Name
« on: December 15, 2006, 07:08:08 AM »
We would like to come up with a clever name for the a local college Libertarian group.  They are at a State University.  I thought with the clever bunch we have here at FTL someone could come up with a really funny name that may, may not be useable but at least entertaining.

One offereing was SLUT, State Libertarian University Team
Another was SLAP, State Libertarian Aliance Party
Yet another was SLAM, State Libertarian Aliance Membership
then there is the LAF, Libertarian Aliance Front
We also have the typical Campus Libertarians, College Libertarians etc.

The thinking is if it is clever or funny the word about the group will spread on campus.  Time is limited so please post your ideas we would love to see them.  And who knows maybe someone at another college will get inspired and use one of the clever names you post here.

Known as shanek on this bbs was in a car crash with his wife and his two children.  His wife was killed and he is in critical condition.  He is an Atheist so prayers may not mean as much to him as sending him well wishes and sympathy for his lose.
Below is the relevant information as it was sent out on our LP list.  I hope that some on this bbs will at least send him an email to be passed on to him by hospital volunteers. (UPDATE this will have to wait until after he is out of ICU.)

Charleston Area Medical Center

CAMC General Hospital

Use the information above with his name if you wish to send anything.

You may click on this link to send Shane an email, to be delivered by
a volunteer.  The person I talked with at the hospital didn't give me a room number
to send flowers or anything, but I figure if you use 5 South,
Stepdown Unit that will be good enough.

http://www.camc.org
You will have to click on patient email link on their main page to send him a message.  However he is still in the ICU and hasn't been asigned a room so you can't email just yet.  When that information becomes available I will update this posting.

This is Shane's Libertarian Web Site This is a link to his Libertarian web site.

He is a tireless fighter for the cause of Liberty and my greatest hope is for his speedy recovery.  I do hope that some of you will feel the need to send him a card.

General / Petition Drive NC
« on: November 02, 2006, 09:39:17 AM »
North Carolina is the second hardest state for a political party to get recognized in the United States.  This Nov. 7th election day volunteers will be collecting signatures at polling places all across North Carolina.  The National Chair of the Libertarian party, Mr. Bill Redpath has volunteered to gather signatures in North Carolina that day.  If anyone wants to help out please find out more www.lpnc.org   And even if you don't live in NC but happen to live in SC, VA, GA or TN I would like to encourage you to jump the border and help this drive.

One reason NC needs to get this petition drive behind us is the fact that we have a very motivated and well spoken potential candidate for governor.  And the sooner we can get this drive behind us the sooner candidates can be working on the 2008 elections.  http://munger4ncgov.com/index.php

General / Government Regulated Morality?
« on: October 21, 2006, 05:35:27 AM »
When I think of the terms of government regulated morality, I classify it with victimless crimes.  I see Republicans as more likely to support government regulated morality.  With restrictions on vise crimes like prostitution and gambling as an example of regulated morality.  I also see it in moves to enforce other concenting adult actions such as homosexuality, strip clubs, and pornography.  If you can not clearly define a harmed person other than the person taking the action it is a moral issue which should be left to the choice of that person.

An individual questioned government regulated morality as being a problem.  Using murder to justify society having the right to regulate morality because to him murder is a moral issue.  I felt that murder isn't a moral issue but a rights issue in that you shouldn't have the right to harm another person and therefore murder isn't purly a moral issue.  When speaking about government regulated morality the most important question is to ask, is the action of the person in question actually harming you?

Unfortunatly, I wasn't able to continue the conversation as the individual I was working the outreach booth, a big L, broke in and started talking about how it was a person's right to think murder is okay as long as they don't take action.  If I was confused I am certain the person asking the question was totally mystified by that reply. (Actually the guy had the you are so wrong, I have in my mind just won the argument look.)

She did get back to the if the action doesn't harm you why should you have the right to outlaw or regulate those moral issues.  As an example if she were gay what harm does it do to another person?  His reply was that homosexuality harms society as a whole.  I would have asked how does it harm society? (It went unasked)   I didn't really get to hear the rest of the conversation as I became busy with other people.  I did get to ask him a question if people have a moral objection to people owning a gun should they have the right to create laws that disarm others?  His answer was that would just be wrong.  And I said but don't you see they have regulated a moral choice for you that you don't agree is morally wrong.  Eventually, the envitable lets agree to disagree and thank-you for your interst please leave came about.

Basically anything he thought of as morally wrong should be illegal or heavly regulated but what he didn't see as morally wrong even if others did should be legal and unregulated.

Big question is murder a moral issue or a rights issue or something else?  Also, what would be a limited government reply to the without government regulated morality you think murder is alright argument?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karen_Kwiatkowski

Karen U. Kwiatkowski is a retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel whose assignments included duties as a Pentagon desk officer and in a variety of roles for the National Security Agency. Since retiring, she has become a noted critic of the U.S. government's involvement in Iraq. Kwiatkowski is primarily known for her insider essays that denounce a corrupting political influence on the course of military intelligence leading up to the invasion of Iraq in 2003. She has said that she was the anonymous source used by Seymour Hersh and Warren Strobel in their respective exposés of pre-war intelligence. The Republican-controlled Senate Select Committee on Intelligence dismissed her allegations as baseless in its report on pre-war intelligence.

This group seems to be promoting her as a possible candidate but is it like the recruit Ruward group where the potential candidate hasn't expressed any interest in running?
