Why make women listeners any more special than other listeners? It's dumb and sexist. I thought FTL was into serious matters and issues, not this high school BS.
Starting my own shrine..."The Shrine of Blue-Eyed Listeners." Yep. Blue-eyed listeners are so much more interesting and deserve special recognition for having blue eyes. Will have the web site up, and soon. Or post your blue-eyed listener pic here.
See how ridiculous the "Shrine of Female Listeners" is when you place it in the context of my shrine idea? It's subjugating a group of listeners by some characteristic that they have no control over....they are born female. It's like having a shrine of Asian listeners, or gay listeners...
Women aren't any more or any less important than any other listener. Start treating them that way.

First of all, the pictures are not rated. That would produce a lot of hurt feelings and pissed off women. Second, nobody forced us to submit our pictures. We all did it upon our own volition. Low self-esteem? Because we submitted pictures to prove that we as women listen to talk radio? Specifically this talk radio show?

But here is it's purpose:
Much of "traditional" talk radio doesn't have much of an amount of female listeners. On Free Talk Live, we're proud of our female listeners, and simply want to show them off to Program Directors, and other listeners. As you may know, female callers come first on Free Talk Live.
I've also heard, probably on the show, that the Shrine is used for advertisment purposes (whatever that means).
Personally, the Shrine doesn't have any importance to me, and saying that it serves to show off women, it's pretty silly. It reminds me of a rich old guy, who wants to show off his young (probably blond) wife :P I wonder why there is no Shrine of Senior Listeners or of Black Listeners. I also disagree that female callers come first. But, as John Shaw said, "They have the shrine. They want the shrine. It's their shrine." If you don't appreciate that part of FTL, you may simply accept it, because there are other good and more important things about FTL.
What's funny to me is the validation of a shriner (a sign with FTL on it). How does that prove that a woman is really a listener? I seriously doubt all shriners listen to FTL.
However, I don't believe that women who post photos necessarily have low self-esteem.

Her reasons for me being wrong were, a) they were married and b) they owned a tattoo shop together. After conceding that marriages never end and places never go out of business, I told her about a neo-nazi I went to high school with who had a penchant for writing "toten Jude" on my locker and threatening to kill me. Then I told her how I didn't kill myself, cry for weeks, transfer to another school or press charges for harrassment. Rather, I moved on with my life and urged the school to get him for vandalism, because their property rights and his right to hate Jews are more important than my hurt feelings.
I like to think I'm both a teacher and a bitch.

I think it's definately important to illustrate women belong to this demographic. Check the ratio of BBS members, its maybe 6:1 in favor of guys. Thats fucked up, because I would consider women to be approximately half of the population, plus or minus a percentage point. In reality.
Then, with the odds stacked against them (and half of them don't even post here anymore, the stats are skewed), women tend to make a lot of sense. So, you've got maybe a dozen women, and a couple hundred guys, all posting. Yet the women are consistantly on topic, composed, precise. And they've got nice things to look at.
I really don't see the problem.

But seriously, while a lot of the guys here see a female member, and start playing with their male member, is it really that different than anywhere else on teh intarweb? The only difference I see is that the quality of what few women do come around is much higher.
Another thing that I think makes women scarce, is that not many of them like to fight. My wife is a dyed in the wool, anti gummint gun toting whackjob. She absolutely refuses to talk politics online. She has a lot less stress than I do. Somebody in the equation is a little smarter than someone else here.

I didn't bring up wives, because in Japan they're not called wives, they're called "tsuma" or the more common, "oku-sans." Rest assured, had I brought up wives it would have been under the proper cultural references of where I currently live, which is Japan.
I do have a fiance, though, which in Japanese is konyakusha, which sounds and aweful lot like konyaku, which is a kind of japanese food that is famous in Gunma, the part of Japan I live.
My Konyakusha is not Konyaku though.

Back on topic...the Shrine is around to make advertisers recognize that FTL has female listeners, and they should pay FTL more money because of this. I wish Ian would explain this on the show to make it less awkward-sounding, but whatever. The Shrine is clearly not a "z0mg BOOBIES" thing. This is the INTERNET. If somebody just wanted to see boobies, they could within five seconds.

FTL has a website with women's pictures, that you then rate and/or discuss ad naseum here on the BBS. This isn't HotRock 99 FM. This isn't the Keene HS Libertarian Club. This is a great show with great potential. But the Shrine will hold it back.
It's immature, it serves no purpose but to tittilate the men and to convey some sense of acceptance for the women who actually submit their picture, meaning she has low self-esteem anyway, and it just perpetuates the low self-esteem. I would rather be judged by my ideas, not my freakin' picture.
Clearly, FTL is a great show, but the cheesy Shrine has got to go. It makes it hard to take anything seriously that is discussed on FTL or the BBS.
Not that all you kids are taking this seriously, anyway.
I'm on the shrine, and I have extremely high self esteem. The Shrine serves a purpose - so program directors know ladies listen to the show. Ladies are rare in both talk radio, and libertarianism; who cares if Free Talk Live wants to show them off. Personally, I sent my picture in because I like FTL.

And Mark, well...Mark is 35. The revelation has come and gone. What exactly do you want Ian, Mark, or us to do about it? Would you like the shrine taken down? I will then go ahead and reiterate that the shrine was started when the show was started - which was on a very low-watt FM station in Venice/Englewood/Sarasota Florida. Pizza delivery people, locals, and kids from my high school and other surrounding schools listened. It wasn't the demographic you hear now. Furthermore, anyone with half a brain cell would realize that the shrine is selective representation of the women who listen to this show, so let's not judge the advertisers here. There are certainly plenty of children who need parents out there. Since you think selfishness is such a bad quality, don't you think it's selfish of people to give birth when there are plenty of unwanted children in the world?

My feelings haven't changed yet, grant it I'm only 22, but I have never wanted children, and have never had any motherly instinct. If I changed my mind in 10 years, there is always adoption. There are certainly plenty of children who need parents out there. Ian is free to be as selfish and egotistical as he wants. The standout issue that bothers me about him and his show, is that he is afraid to tackle any subject, whether truth to it or not, that may possibly damage his popularity in his view. Anything outside of his current belief system is labeled as kook conspiracy theories. Well, a lot of it is a double edged sword. It carries potential to boost his popularity. Anything infowars.com or prisonplanet.com report on are immediately written off as kook script and avoided. Like he feels threated by their operator, Alex Jones. Issues such as 9/11, the North American Union, and the New World Order are real issues. These are not kook script. And some day, when even Rush Limbaugh is addressing them, Ian will be forced to address them. And I'm planning to stand firm, that "when" he does, due to his attitude about them now, there will not be room on this "kook" wagon for him. Ian hasn't done his homework, and he's going to pay for that come exam time. His close mindedness on the subject now, seals his future fate, as far as I'm concerned.

There's nothing wrong with that of course. Hey, if you can do it better, do it! The more the merrier! Some people hate the shrine, some people love it. Some people want to hear a three hour show about politics, some don't. Personally, I fit into the "don't" category. If FTL did that, only people who are really interested in politics would want to listen, which is a minority. FTL helps introduce the liberty message to people in an entertaining way that is easy for the average person to understand. Oh, and FTL is getting bigger.

Don't care about Java...Flash...sparkles...dots...Karma points...yadda yadda. I think content-wise FTL's web site is pretty good. The look is sort of...I don't know...NASCAR? Dark? It has not been updated for a few years...and you need to update just the general look of stuff every year or so. I despise excessive flash/java/graphics/MIDI music...so I think in that regard, and with its content, the site is great. And the podcasts are GOLD. Nobody else, not even the big guys, offers all that. I can't even get cable news shows in their entirety, let alone an archive of past shows. So to me FTL sets the standard for what cable news shows and others should be doing on their web sites.

I also didn't put words in your mouth. This is the internet. What I said is in plain black and white, so to speak. Everyone responds to statements differently, and you cannot accurately measure a person's wisdom, experience, intelligence, and certainly not their age by the way they respond to something. And before you say anything, I understand that what you meant. I just try to minimize my judgement against others.
We've all pretty much said the same thing. I think the end-all is that it isn't your website, and I doubt very seriously that Ian cares much about the fact that you and others think the shrine is dumb, and that some people take issue with the design of his website.
