Listening to FTL
« on: January 08, 2010, 04:09:04 PM »

I sometimes listen to the podcast and sometimes the live broadcast if I have the time.  Just curious about the listening habits of the other forum junkies.

Listening live doesn't fit into my wife's lifestyle.

When I first started listening, I would try my best to listen live every night. Now I am at work almost every night while the show is playing, and have other aspects of my lifestyle that take up my time so I barely even listen to the podcast anymore but do scan for interesting topics and download the mp3 for later.

I would listen to the podcast during my commute when I lived in NH.

I would listen live to the radio broadcast on Sat. night when FTL was on WNTK.

Now I listen when I get clued in to a good topic involving drama in the free state.

I listen to almost every show the day-after on my iPhone while  driving, going to sleep, killing time etc.

I have to say I'm starting to get tired of the FSP talk.

I can't see how 'beating a dead horse' on that topic will keep a national audience entertained.  Thats the point of the show right? Sell advertising and get on more stations---->then recruit for FSP.  The FSP must be huge sponsors.

The thing is,  I'm down with the concept of the FSP but I now roll my eyes every time Ian's response to a callers problem is to pack up their lives and move to the arctic.

I listen to every episode via podcast on iTunes. I never miss a show, but I never listen live either. I listen on my commute and catch up on the weekend while I am on the computer if I fall behind on shows.

I usually pick and choose to listen to interesting podcasts but I have been known to listen to live broadcasts.

I have to agree the only FTL solution to all problems being you must move to the arctic is kind of annoying.   I fully understand moving to an area of like minded people is to concentrate numbers and it is a great idea.  However, many people have families and lives they can't uproot.  Is there anything they can do locally?

I say yes.  There are things which people can do locally.  They can promote issues and join groups who are working on those freedom issues.  The Marijuana Policy Project or Marijuana March which holds rallies all across the globe every May.  There are tax payers associations people can join.  You don't have to live in NH to hand out, "Fully Informed Jury," pamphlets.  There also is nothing stopping you from posting your opinions on local forums on issue such as smoking bans.   There are other groups like those against forced annexation.

I don't listen every day, but I do hear about 70% of it, always via podcast - I just have no tolerance for radio ads.

My listening attentiveness also varies quite a bit: I get the best material absorption if I listen while taking a walk in the woods, but I usually prefer to listen to audio books on those walks instead.  The absorption weakens when I listen while doing housework, for example, and I often put on a show while I'm trying to fall asleep every night, which often takes me 40-80 minutes to do, and listening to something as my consciousness gradually fades out makes the process less boring and depressing.  (Major insomnia / depression problems here, and I've always refused to take medication.)  For this reason I get to hear the first part of the show (usually not the best) a lot more often (I've thought about starting to listen from the middle of the show while trying to fall asleep, but it just doesn't feel right doing it).  I really should get in the habit of spending more time doing light outdoor work, which would be better for my eyes, my health, and my FTL listening habits as well.

I'm a half-n-half listener. Two or three nights live, though I usually only hear the second half of show, and the rest on podcast.

I work with local gun rights groups and tea partiers in San Diego.  There are a bunch of us out here.  How much good we are doing is a completely different question though.

It is kind of relative.   And if you aren't able to move it might be all you can do for now.   I am not saying you will have the same potential for success that the FSP might have but every little bit should help.  Possibly the goal could be to see to it that your kids move to the FSP so they can establish themselves in New Hampshire.

I listen to the podcast 3-5 times a week. Usually not the Saturday version unless I see something that looks interesting in the show discription. I used to listen every day, but now I'm back in retail and can't have my Zen on all day. And I have other podcasts on which I want to keep up to date, as well.

I try to listen to it three to five times a week, as well, via podcast.

Sometimes if I'm with someone else (which rarely happens) I put on the GCN stream and put that in the background. The most positive thing that has happened from this is my friend saying about an ad, "Is that the voice of Space Ghost?"
