Even though Lindsey already made it clear, I will re-iterate:

Lindsey was chosen as moderator because she was able to solve a little problem we had earlier with a few posters.

She has very specific instructions as to what she can and can't do.

She will not delete a post.  (Unless it is an unnecessary bump.)

She can not delete users.

She will edit posts with extra carriage returns. (one of the problems we had that created the need for a moderator.)

If you want to liven up the forum. Let people read the forum without logging in. Making people login(register) just to read drives them away.

I considered this in the genesis of the forum.  I decided that if they don't want to join, screw em.  I'm not going to sell their info or violate their privacy.

Requiring registration to even read the forums contributes to more signups from those who would normally lurk anonymously.

Ok, its your call. But don't expect the registered members to sky rocket.

Generally I bypass forums which require registration. Registration is a pain in the ass, so there better be something worth registering for. If they can't sample the forum...

Point taken.  I'd love to hear other opinions.  I would say for the amount of people out there like you, there exists an equal amount who would not join but for their curiosity about what lies inside.  If they've come this far, why not go all the way?

Interesting points.  As you know, I joined only a couple (?) of months ago, because I happened to listen to the show a few times and  wanted to tell you all a Thing Or Two.    If I want to jump into a forum, I don't hesitate to sign in.  

I  still do, however, avoid websites that make you "register" just read one of their articles you happened to link to.  

I wonder why people would register to go to a forum and then never post anything.  When I posted this topic, "this forum kinda sucks right now,"  I was seeing almost no activity here, except to have someone responding to call me dirty names every time I posted something.

So I take it back now, I don't think it sucks or I wouldn't still be come here.

I think having to register just to look is a good thing, and that it lessens the number of people who just come in here to vomit their crap at other people because they have nothing intelligent to say about anything.  There's going to be a LITTLE of that everywhere you go.

On almost every BBS I run I require registration for all but ONE of the forums...

One area of the boards remains an open area for all to read, registered or not, and the rest are closed for all but registered members...

Just an idea... you could make one forum open. Hell you COULD even make one that doesn't require registration to POST...

These settings aren't board-wide.

I had typed in a long response, then I got sidetracked by something. When I submit my reply it wants me to log in again and I lost the response I had typed.
