Thank goodness for the TSA

Finally Ian, Mark, and misc. host have something to talk about other than the primal importance of going to jail for smoking marijuana.

at least they aren't going the "you guys are doing nothing but wasting time" route for anyone who questions the screenings. But yeah, already sick of it.

We are missing something I am sure. The press couldn't have collectively got so interested in that huge statist and obviously evil elephant in the room, something else should be seen but isn't. I wonder what it is.

The fella who called in the other night, who compared the TSA to a locked sliding door on your house... left out one very important facet to complete the picture.

You lock the door, after having abused a neighbor down the road repeatedly, threatening his family and damaging his property while screaming paranoia about how the neighbor was a "danger to us all" because he was a little brown, and maybe had different religious views.
Then, the insufficient security presented by a home lock would seem to make a little more sense.

In the end, the guy locking his house in fear is the violent perp, and is merely projecting his flaws on the neighbor, then sending in the F117s to toss "smart" bombs into his chimney.

The thing that strikes me is that the issue isn't really the body scanner--it's just that it's gotten so extreme that's what it took to get people to be critical.  It's really the 4th Amendment.  The TSA shouldn't have even been created; they can't do the job without violating the 4th Amendment.

Security should be back in the hands of the airlines where it belongs, and if they cannot balance the security verses privacy issue, they'll be held responsible--either for the damages or in loss of ticket sales (which they're already losing now, and would have a chance of addressing.)

My family and I just got back from a trip to Florida; the airport we used to fly down didn't have the scanners, but the FL airport did on the way back.  Since we were travelling with our four children (ages 8 down to 7 months), we didn't have to go through the porno-scanners.  We also did not undergo our "Freedom Pat-Down" (as Mark called it the other night on the show).  So, if you are travelling by air, you might consider taking a few kiddos along.

What I'm wondering if there is any research being done evaluating how effective these methods really are in increasing airline safety.  My guess is that if we rolled everything back to the point of allowing non-travellers through to the gate (you know, to meet your travelling compatriot as he exits the airplane), that we would not see any serious increase in danger.  It's all a ploy to keep pushing the envelope until we eventually have security cameras installed in our homes so that we can be monitored 24/7 by the FedGov.
