My sales elevator speach
« on: December 13, 2009, 10:25:04 AM »

I I have said numerous times on air, I use the Best Political Podcast Award daily in marketing the show. I try to portray to advertisers that yes we do have around a half a million radio listeners, but those radio listeners are not NEARLY as responsive and valuable as our podcast listeners. But we lost the Best Political Podcast Award by a hair's breathe and I can no longer say truthfully "Free Talk Live is a nationally syndicated radio show broadcast on 60 radio stations coast to coast and voted the #1 Political Podcast for 4 years running. I have the little plastic trophies sitting here right in front of me to prove it."

I would like some ideas as to what I can say now that might be just as motivating or as close as I can get.

You need something earth-shattering to shake things up

in your face Howard Stern shit

I will continue to give you a huge frickin' grenade

which you may or may not decide to throw

but sooner or later SOMEBODY is going to break out with a review of Starving The Monkeys

the sooner the better for everyone

but hey, maybe Howard Stern popularity isn't what you want...

if you're not comfortable with that level

Darn.  We didn't win?!

(I'm in the dark - I thought PodcastAwards.com wasn't updated yet.)

As for the elevator pitch (and I know NH doesn't have many tall buildings)...

I'd talk about quality and dedication of its listenership, not just the quantity.  It reaches audiences that other shows don't.

When I hear an ad on mainstream radio, I think, "meh, so that's what them cornfed middleAmericatards / them snooty coastal liberals are buying, I can do without that".  But when I hear an ad on Free Talk Live, I buy 20 of whatevertheyresellings and give them away as gifts.

Free Talk Live - our listeners are fucking crazy, but they have disposable income and really love our show.

Actually, you can still say that.

Actually, you can still say that.

"running" indicates that the status is current. That would mean to the listener that we have won the current award and the previous 3.

Ok.  My interpretation of "running" was always concurrent, but not necessarily inclusive.  I donno if thats proper, I may be wrong, never did an autopsy on the word.

We held the title four years running..  Works for me.  Doesn't ring my word-nazi bell.  Perhaps because of the modifier "held" is past-tense and suggests the running is now broken.  Its still an admirable achievement, Mark.

Winner: The Young Turks...  BUMMER...

Losing to Limbaugh would have been better.

We're still the #1 non-communist podcast though, right?

"Free Talk Live is a nationally syndicated radio show broadcast on 60 radio stations coast to coast and growing.  Free Talk Live was voted the #1 Political Podcast for 4 years in a row and boasts a large and loyal fan base of listeners."

Maybe add the number of facebook fans or bbs participants and how that compares to some of the bigger syndicated shows like Laura Ingram or maybe a name you are already beating with more confirmed fans.

That or

"Free Talk Live is a nationally syndicated radio show broadcast on 60 radio stations coast to coast and growing.  Free Talk Live was nominated as the top Political Podcast 5 years in a row and boasts a large and loyal fan base of listeners."

or

"Free Talk Live is a nationally syndicated radio show broadcast on 60 radio stations coast to coast and growing.  Free Talk Live was voted the top Political Podcast 4 out of the last 5 years and I have the trophies sitting here to prove it."

4 out of the previous 5 years.  80% since began competing.

If you don't carry our show you're part of the problem and will be first against the wall when the revolution comes.

Yep. What everyone else said.

"Free Talk Live is a nationally syndicated radio show broadcast on 60 radio stations coast to coast and voted the #1 Political Podcast for 4 out of the 5 years there have been podcast awards"

The forum full of trolls has become an unusual selling point.

Its like "Plus, look at the thing we have living in this wicker basket...  Betcha never seen one of them  before!"

While I will agree that our little freak show is unique, I would disagree that it is particularly salable. Except Liberty Stickers, they love you guys.
