Mark, don't take this wrong way, but dude relax and take a break. Maybe let Stephanie run the show while you rest up....
I like most of what I hear you say and I'm impressed with your skill on the topic of liberty on the radio. But, did you ever hear that your greatest weakness is your strength taken to the extreme.
You talk good, but too much is too much.
On this show, you're talking over Stephanie alot. You ask her to read show prep after one sentence, you're interrupting and talking for 2 or 3 minutes.
Give her a chance to say shit too! She seems to be to quite intelligent with a real intuitive knack for communicating.
Other than that, keep up the good work. You just happen to be the sort of person who can't mask his stress level...

There's only so much about "gender roles" that I can stomach.
-
Someone needs to step up and regularly post a show prep thread so we have a spot to comment on each episode. Ian used too but he doesnt exactly have the ability now.

Quit being a "tool" you man Pig.

Denis is right. I soooo wanted Stephanie to complain when Denis chimed in when he was guest hosting and that thin skinned chick called in.
I liked the Luther/ Derrick show. Mark could take a break and let those two bicker once a week.
Paraphrasing:
Luther "We worked and helped people and you guys got more attention in the media by partying and getting high!"
Derrick "yeah but...." *asked every new caller if the protesters partied*
I think stuff like that is hysterical.

Yup...I just logged in to post "Less Stephanie" and then I saw this.

Absolutely! I'm really enjoying Derrick's attitude about the issues over the tight-panties approach of Stephanie. He's figured you can make the same types of points and entertain, instead of making people want to tune out.
-
Stephanie doesn't have a "tight Panties" approach - you're just not confident with your own masculinity!

I think Stephanie is an ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL person who is sweet as pie. She is simply amazing and I like and respect her a great deal.
I just dislike her condescending look-down-the-nose approach to some callers. :( Hopefully, with feedback from the FTL community, she can consider taking a different approach?
-
got a specific example of looking down the nose?
I mean I've probably missed a few podcasts.....
Look everyone - I don't how this thread turned into a Stephanie popularity or not discussion.
My original intent was to communicate that Mark needed a break - I mean he has the cruise coming up for crying out loud - I mean he's probably expected to speak etc.
The reason I suggested Stephanie is because she's proven herself to be competent with Lady Talk Live as the main host.
The main host could just as easily be JJ, Wayne, Dale, Denis - whomever. Mark just needed to give it a rest is all I was saying!

I'm sure she's a great person, and it's all about her on-air style.

Okay....just wondering....how big is your truck?

I don't have a truck. Now ask me how big my dick is.

I'm acting like I'm responding to someone who just tried to go with the "you got a big truck to make up for your penis size" thing. I don't have a truck, so it's not applicable. Good night now.

Back to the original point, Dale did a great job, and I think Gardner Goldsmith would be a good sub if he'd do it (I know he'd have to drive a distance, but Mark should at least get a day or two off.) Frankly, I agree that Stephanie seems more than competent enough, but it seems like she can't let her pedantic feminism thing rest--the reason I posted the other topic I just posted tonight is because she felt she had to call in and push that crap for half an hour after someone made a (fairly lame) crank call making fun of it.
Another point, if you're serious about the original intent, though, is that there may not be very many who know how to operate the in-studio junk (maybe Julia paid a lot of attention when she lived there?), and possibly most of the people we think would be good hosts can't. I hope there's at least a third or fourth person who could handle it if Mark couldn't do it.

^What he said! Kinda like Luther put Derrick in his place there, but Derrick didn't stay there!

Big?? Thought it was an innie.

I was an awful prick on the Saturday show, you are right. I apologized to Stephanie already. I felt like I had been given a stimulant. I was out of control. Thanks for the feedback. I don't get on the BBS much anymore, the best way to reach me is Mark@freetalklive.com

Along those lines; I get irritated when a host says, "I've got a couple points to make" and then never gets past the first one. If they take a call, fine. It's when the other hosts get into a tangent, like girl vs. woman, that we get lost and lose what could have been a good discussion about freedom and free markets and such....
I'm glad Mark took a break but I don't recall hearing live reads when he was at his volunteer training. I wondered if the clients demand Mark's voice or if others are dropping the ball?

Generally, when I sell a live read, it is not specified who will read it. I work 6 days a week, normally; as does Ian.

Frankly, I think Mark needs to be a little more authoritative with Steph on the show. When she starts getting out of line, with her gender issues for instance, Mark needs to give her a stern look, maybe point his finger in her direction and snap his finger and say "OK Steph........thats enough!" just to show her whos boss. After all, he's a man and she's a woman, so its pretty obvious she over-steps her boundaries too much already.
No sense in letting that stuff get too far out of hand.
Next thing ya know, she'll start thinking she is equal or some nonsense.

ROFL.
But Mike! I dont' think you're respecting my preferences to not hear feminazi garbage on the radio, and I don't think you're being very respectful of my preferences to not hear sarcasm or read sarcastic comments on the internets.

If Stephanie comes on here and sees how much everybody loves Nemi and is criticising her, she might be all sad. So I want to say I believe it would be best for FTL if the women kept their pretty little heads out of that yucky political stuff and were only heard in the background saying sweet nothings as they deliver fresh coffee, sandwiches and the occasional brandy to the men trying to work. Men can't discuss important issues effectively with those silly chicks chiming in with nonsense all the time.
Except for Julia and Meg they're cool.
-
OMG, you guys are trolling Stephanie so hard. I don't think she's gonna take the bait.

Ah come on, doesn't everybody look happier on that show Madmen?
Woman like to be treated that way.
-
Give them something shiny to show off to their friends every now and then and they'll be as happy as a bird in a nest.
-

Oh yea, I meant to tell you....
I trust people that can't mask his or her stress level.. I feel safer around people that show their true self.
-
I must say that when she was in the first chair her voice was way less annoying. She did well when she hosted the show for Mark.
