Title: Chick Talk Live - Enough already...
Post by: ChristianAnarchist on May 08, 2009, 07:56:36 AM
Am I wrong for being BORED with freetalklive now that it has turned into a chick show with all this talk about their "feelings" about how scared they are of freedom and how the big bad boogie man is going to haul them all away to the closet if we actually acknowledge that the "government" doesn't exist and certainly doesn't "protect" us in any way.  That's life girls, and no one is really behind the curtain...

Ian, you need to loose your policy of letting the ladies first if they are going to call in such huge numbers.  The guys don't have a chance to get on when you keep moving them to the front of the line...

Even my wife thinks it's pretty silly to have all these ladies on and no men anymore...

I for one will have to start listening to another show in the evening if this continues much longer...  And I have been listening for many years now and don't change channels easily.

I found it fun. Something different from the usual political rantings.

My only criticism is that the conversations were exhaustive and drawn out a little bit.  I enjoyed it all around.

A few slower paced shows with female callers is reason enough to stop listening to FTL?  Sounds like you do change channels easily, gene.

...How many shows has it been Gene?  One show?  Calm yourself.

It's like when the nutbars in Montana starting turning FreeTalkLive into ChemTalkLive, you grit your teeth and you get through it.

If it's Chick Talk live when women call up, is it Dick Talk Live when the men do?

Look, it's Ian's show and he can do what he wants with it.  The only question is will he loose more listeners than he gains by a "change" in show format.  Any change will result in some people leaving and other new listeners tuning in.  Only Ian will be able to make the decision as to which way he wants the show to go.  It has grown a great deal with the current format of being a liberty oriented show with some shock topics and that is what I want to hear (I think I am in agreement with most of the current audience in this perspective).  If it turns into a ladies talk show and some greater percentage of the subjects turn to "feelings" and "kittens" and such, many of the existing audience will leave.  The only question to Ian is will he gain enough women to replace them?

It's his call, I'm just voicing my opinion here to give him my perspective as a long time listener.  If knowing the opinions of the listeners is not important to him, then he doesn't need to read this and none of us needs to continue this thread...

I know that I'd be more likely to listen-- and very possibly AMP more-- if they returned to having a portion of each show devoted to discussing lighter topics.   The show where they spend nearly half of the time talking about people who cut themselves and laughing at their insipid essays on a self-cutter web site was one of the best ever.

Hmmm....I should look that one up.

Your post had valid points, it was just far too soon to make them.  One portion of one show had more female callers than usual.  Thats story thus far.  Ians had the girls first rule for a long time, and previously it didn't make much difference in the shows.  If every show did somehow turn into a seminar on being in touch with your feelings, i probably wouldn't listen any more either.  But the fact stands that the callers brought up their own topics, and there were a few topics in a row that you personally did not identify with.  No reason to stop your listenership.

Femaleness trumps almost anything else. Just more pleasant to listen to.

Except maybe in extreme cases, like Paula... but she's so batshit insane, she'd be entertaining no matter what she sounded like.

seriously its not that big of a deal. stop being a sexist. I dont really care all we usually here in general is males anyways. If it comes to the point where its mostly just females being the major demographic i'm sure they'll change there policy.

Any time the show "shifts" for a few days people cry DOOM from the rooftops

2 shows of chem trails? DOOOOOM
2 shows of couch-on-the-lawn talk? DOOOOOOOOOM!
1 show of girls calling in? DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

If by now you don't have faith in Ian's ability to not let the show get stuck, I don't know how to help you.

hey man cooties are worse then the swine flu! call in the national guard, the CDC, homeland security, and any other effective goverment resource in uselessly wasting our taxes. If the girls keep calling in droves then I think Ian should make it first come first served then, the show is starting to sound like love line with all theses girls calling in, maybe Ian should get Dr.Drew on for a day when all theses girls call up.

But as long as the girls from the question club aren't calling in everyday I think its fine

I've kind of enjoyed the calls.  Isn't part of the idea of this show to persuade people to accept ideas consistent with the NAP?  Convincing a different demographic is a good thing.  As they expand to more mainstream stations, there will be different types of callers.  I think it is all good.  I can listen to lots of other stuff for more of the finer points of libertarian theory, and I do.  I am interested in hearing ways of persuading other types of people, particularly the types that don't seek out this stuff on their own the way I did and I'm sure many others here did.  Although some of the girls do seem to be asking good questions, maybe they already are thinking about these things already, and maybe they became curious after reading posts on their forum.

I think one change to consider making is allowing a male caller in after a certain number  of females (maybe 3 or 4), no matter the number of females on the line.

Also, I am not a caller, so I am not viewing this issue from Gene's perspective.

I like Gene's calls first of all.

But I gotta say, there needs to be some rethinking of the ladies first policy as the show becomes more popular. I think FTL breaks the mold of the male dominated talk shows. I believe that they discussed that on the air though, making this thread, um, like one of Paula's calls

No, I'm a Christian Anarchist (note the order).  I chose the red/black simply because I like the appearance and not because some others have claimed it (recall the "anarchist" part of my title).  So I don't accept anyone's definition of it other than my own.  If you don't like my definition, feel free to invent your own...

Besides, there's no real cliam to the red/black flag.  Only supposition as to who was first with it (Wikipedia).

I'm a long ways behind and only just heard the show today. It was quite a good show. It was nice to hear new callers with different questions. For a while it was getting like the same old thing with the same callers and Ian and Mark preaching to the same choir. This show was a nice refreshing change from that.

I honestly don't believe Ian will become distracted enough to let the show change format and do day after day of talking about feelings or whatever and become Chick Talk Live. The show has never become Conspiracy Talk Live despite conspiracy theorists going at it a lot harder than anyone else.

I have called in a couple of times and asked to not be pushed through because I was a woman.  I felt at the time Ian rushes female callers off faster because they do get front of the line status.  I might call in again sometime.  But I have to agree unless it is a slow night and no lady callers push them up.  But if they are well represented let the lineup be first come first serve.  I suspect foreign callers get priority so if you are a dude who can't wait put on a good fake accent.

Oh, right.  I forgot.  "The Big Bang Theory" was dreamed up by "creationists"...

The problem I see with religion is that it claims to know the "truth" that they cannot know. They weren't there.

Neither was I. The Big Bang is an interesting hypothosis, I look forward to what empirical test will be invented to verify it.

My self-respect and mind are not endangered by saying "I don't know", because there is always going to be more that I don't know than that I do. So I am not "comforted" by having someone tell me they have the ultimate answer. The opposite, in fact, that since they cannot emotionally deal with uncertainty I doubt them specifically because they do claim to know ultimate truth.
Title: Re: Chick Talk Live - Enough already...
Post by: ChristianAnarchist on May 26, 2009, 09:45:56 PM
"The Truth" that is claimed to be revealed is one which is claimed to have been revealed by God, the Creator, who was there at His Creation event.  Now you can certainly claim that God did not reveal that this is how it all came about, but then it's not possible to prove a negative, is it??

So the creation story is either a truth revealed by someone who was there as a partaker of the event, or it is a lie.  Certainly we cannot be so wise as to claim that we know which one is true.  I choose (freewill after all) to believe the former.  It seems reasonable from what I see in the universe.  It feels right in my soul.  Those two things are what I base my decision on (my "gut" feeling combined by my personal observations of the creation)...

As to dave's now deleted post, I have not made the claims he tries to assign me.  I have stated many times that "The Bible" is not my main source for my belief (but hey dave, don't let the facts get in your way)...

I come to my conclusions using logic and my own experience.  I use my brain to determine that most of what we are told from birth to death is hogwash.  Most of it is just pablum to make the sheeple behave or at least misbehave in predictable patterns...

Care to disagree on this point?

After further consideration, I realize I am being a prick. Gene, I would like to formally apologize for saying mean things to you and ask for your forgiveness. My behavior was not that of a kind person, and I am sorry for any ire I may have caused. For those of you who read my message, I also apologize and would like all of you to know I was acting like an asshole and will not do so again.

Regards, Nyal

No prob.  I get angry sometimes and say things I regret later.  We all do.  Welcome to the human race...
