Archive Torrent Discussion
« on: October 27, 2005, 11:17:28 PM »

Well, I've finally ended our agreement with Download Radio, and thanks to "ceb" we have placed torrents of Apr-Sep where the old Download Radio link was in the archive column of FreeTalkLive.com.

This means no more problems with Download Radio's spotty coverage of our archives.  You'll find that you only need to access one torrent for an entire month's worth of shows.

You will need a BitTorrent client.  I reccommend Azureus: http://azureus.sourceforge.net/

This new setup will also make it easier for people to seed our archives.  "Seeding" means that once you're done downloading the files, you leave Azureus open so it can continue serving the files to other downloaders.  The more seeds we have, the faster the downloads will go, so please seed!  There are already a few seeds, but we need far more.

Please feel free to post these torrents on torrent sites, and share them with your friends!

Enjoy!

Awesome!  Why don't you link to the page with the current month's mp3's too.  Just so we can get shows from within a couple of weeks of today.  Just a thought, don't know if there's a problem with this that I can't see.  It's good that you're doing this.  I'm currently seeding those torrents

Nah, there will be a gap until we get a full month to post.  Good suggestion though.

Awesome. I started seeding these last night and already have about 300mb uploaded. I'm on a university connection too, so I can hit 200-300KB/s upload pretty easily. (and up to 1MB/s down at night after they turn the bandwidth prioritization off - I'm gonna need a new hard drive soon after filling this one with..uh...public domain stuff and various other things that aren't pornography)

Edit: Will new archives still have the .zip files posted for straight download?

The only thing that bugs me is that the trackers are run by the conspiracy crowd.. I need to talk to Torgo about setting up our own.

We own this world, Ian.  Get used to it.  We "conspiracy kooks" will be the ones saving your sorry ass from the demons when they come for your pathetic little soul.

Why is it that the one file (May) on the tracker "the.nwotracker.info" has so many more seeds?

Maybe people want it, I don't know.  My seeds are seeding right now, they're taking a while, but I've had them up for a few days, and will continue to keep them up when I'm not using the internet (they slow my connection down some, but I don't mind when It's not sucking up bandwith for my browsing).  Wow, that was a long sentence.

I personally prefer the Bitlord client, but whatever.

I might start seeding files too, once I finish downloading a few unscrupulous other things...

Also, It's my understanding that when you download more than one file at a time, it greatly reduces the download's efficiency. Your overall speed decreases. So I'd suggest just one at a time.

If that was directed to me, I've already downloaded all of them, just the seeding is a little slow, even on a cable modem.  whatever, glad to help people get FTL.

Anyone else with thoughts on the decentralized tracker option?

You can follow the skid marks up your underwear to your own shit-stained ass for all I care. :)

Question...  Can I upload the zips onto my web domain to seed from there?  That way people would be downloading from my domain rather than direct from my PC?  I'm not too familiar with how the back-end of torrents work.  Id like to help, but, I dont want to use all of my bandwidth either and thought that might be a good idea.
