Its pretty straight foreward.  If it were going to be available, would you pay for the bandwidth needed to have your own email address @freetalklive.com.  Then you could pimp FTL every time you give out your contact info!

If it becomes part of AMP, I'm canceling my membership. It'd be going further down the slippery slope of providing AMP-only benefits as an incentive, rather than the original incentive of helping FTL.

There would be negligible cost in giving them free to any listener who wants them, and that cost would be more than recouped with the new listeners that would be brought in through members pimping FTL with their new aliases.

Let me get this stright... you're an AMPer now, but if this extra perk is added to the mix, you'll stop AMPing?
Dude, AMPers get perks not available by default on the website. That just makes sense.

You're a prickly bastard!

If this perk is added, AMP will have changed into something I no longer want to support. Also, canceling my membership is the only way I have of tangibly (i.e. not just posting to the BBS) expressing my dislike for the change.

The way AMP has been described from the very beginning was as a voluntary donation to help FTL, compared to the membership programs Rush et al. have. The perks that are already there pervert that intention enough; we don't need more of them. I took the same position when Ian lowered the non-AMP bitrate and introduced commercials into the podcast. AMP should be something listeners join because they want to advertise, market and promote FTL, not because they want perks. Should we rename it to AMPGCMOP (Advertise, Market and Promote....and Get Cool Members-Only Perks!)?

As I said before, this is a slippery slope. Will we eventually have perks that are only available to AMPers who contribute more than a certain dollar amount per month?

I agree with furby.  This is FREE Talk Live.  Not GIVEUSMONEYWE'REGREEDYBASTARDS Talk Live.  Now, the name is a double entendre, and part of the beauty is that they give listeners archives and other things for FREE.  It has always been that way.  Personally, I do not think everyone needs to encouraged to give this show money.  And nobody needs to be bothered about it.  If people do not want to AMP, they do not have to.  End of story, they do not need to justify their decision.

I could see this as a way to promote FTL, though. If you told your friend (or whomever) that your address was *@freetalklive.com they might get curious about what freetalklive.com.

That's also why it should be a forwarding-only email.

I run my own website, I have 100 email accounts I can use. I don't though because I like my Gmail account just fine.
I also have an email account for my work and a separate one for spam. The last thing I need is another email addy.
Switching would only be a hassle for me.
That being said, I would probably switch to a @freetalklive.com email to help promote the show, but why should I have to pay FTL for the privilege of advertising for them?
I don't even buy clothes that have the makers Logo prominently displayed, even if I like the clothes.
We are bombarded with ADs all day long, it gets annoying, and If I am going to advertise for them, I should get compensated somehow (maybe the article of clothing would come with a discount or something).

No way this is happening.  It's technically impossible at this point.  Our emails are hosted by google and they currently only allow 25 accounts.

If it ever becomes something I could do, it would be separate from AMP and only for those who inquired and were willing to pay for it.  AMPs are time consuming enough to process as is.

Oh the arduous task of collecting money... you whore.   :P

Too bad though that it isnt feasable but im sure google will figure a way to do it and make some dough in the future.  It seems like it could be cool.

I thought I saw somewhere once you could get a personalized redirect anything@anything.anything for free.

Forget where.  I'm guessing they wanted the traffic.

This is just an insane notion... but could FTL have a members only club (that never gets promoted, but exists only as a product (wherein you buy access to a set of perks)), and ALSO have the amp program... and have those two things coexist successfully?

and commence dispensing forceful opinions on the subject... 1... 2...3....

go.

1) It wouldn't be withholding content (it's a SERVICE), so it would actually be MORE in the spirit of the "everything on the site is free" philosophy than the AMP program.

2) I thought you have a development team for a reason. No need to micromanage everything, Ian.
