Nonetheless, he's a bitch compared to Batman.

 Oh, I agree; I just wanted to address the character from a different angle or perspective. The same principle applies to Batman; he's technically an urban terrorist and vigilante, but he's bound by a strict moral code of non-lethal measures when it comes to crime fighting... However, criminals aren't aware of this, which makes his methods even more effective...

But...I prefer Batman, because he's a rich capitalist entrepreneur.

Ok then. Considering that his family, too, worked its way up towards their status is also a sign of hard work and commitment... Take Thomas Wayne, the father of Bruce Wayne, for example. He had enough money where he would never have to worry about working a day in his life again; however, he felt that he owed his fellow human beings his medical aid wherever and whenever a person's life was in danger, and all free of charge.

That's only because he had nothing to worry about by being a free doctor. In this case, it wasn't about altruistic motive, but the egoistical need to practice medicine to its fullest. :)

So what the hell did Superman ever do? He was just born with his powers. He didn't have to work for anything.

My theory is that the true strength of this character lies in his decision to help humanity with his (admitedly) superior powers, rather than rule over the earth as a (somewhat) eternal lord.

Like an Randian 'Overman' vs Nietzchean 'Overman'

Point taken; in truth, I think that it's a mixture of both ego and slight altruism. Thomas wants to help people, which a great thing indeed; however, he helps them not out of financial nessecity, and to ultimately make himself feel better.

Interesting interpretation, by the way; karma for you.

Exactly! I wasn't trying to state that they are the only heroes ever to exist; I was implying that, out of the two DC characters, which was your favorite. :)
Ah. Well then I vote for Simo Hayha.

Well, if you're talking Marvel Comics, there's the Punisher; he'll make sure there's never a spam thread to be found anywhere... *Reloads shotgun* Ever Again...

With that being said, there's also the matter of how the Batman gained his abilities; he traveled the world for over twelve years, honing his mind and body until he reached the peak of mental and physical perfection. How did the Man of Steel earn his? By landing on the right planet under the right sun...
Karma'ed for that one!

Why, thank you :)

Now, I'm not saying that I hate Superman; in fact, one of my favorite "Elseworlds" what-if stories is Superman: Red Son, where the Man of Steel lands 6 hours later on Earth in 1938... Guess where he lands? In Bolshevik Russia!

I haven't read that one yet.  But one of my favorite Supes stories is actually a crossover with the Fantastic Four where Galactus claims Superman as his new herald.  It was pretty sweet.

Superman. Batman has issues. Heroes don't have issues, that's why they're heroes.

(Yes yes yes. overcoming your personal issues is heroic, I get it. Superman is still SUPERman, not crabby, moody man like Mr. Wayne.)

Having said that, if I'm allowed to pick alternate storylines, Frank Miller's Batman wins over Superman.

So, depends on whether Frank Miller was writing.

But when I go home at night, I'm still wearing my Stirling silver Superman ring. My wife gets SO annoyed that on my left hand is our wedding ring, a promise of eternal love, and on my right hand... DUH! duh duh! Superman.

That's an excellent point, which makes perfect sense as to why Paul Dini wrote the 80 year old Bruce Wayne as a bitter, angry and frustrated man 50 years into the future.

Or to put it another way:

Superman got his powers by accident.  Batman got his powers at the gym.

Not having issues doesn't make them heros, it makes them inhuman.

Batman is a much more interesting, more fun character because he has issues.

No, but if you send me the details for how you'd want him to be drawn, I can draw it!
