Just put together a new box on a Shuttle SG31G2 with a Core 2 Quad Q6600 (not overclocked yet) 4GB of DDR2-800 Mushkin goodness, and some other parts I had laying around.

Why you need all that shit just to run Linux? And why go with a 65nm processors when they have faster and cooler 45nm ones out?

Not all Linux boxen are for viewing porn. :) I've got 4GB on mine because I use memory intensive KVM instances. The processor choice would make sense to reduce compile times which matter if you're a developer, devoted hacker or masochist running a source based distro.
