Poll

I always thought that having too many threads on the same topics fragments the conversation and lowers its quality.  Some people vocally disagree.  What do you think?

Always try your best to find an existing thread before starting a new one.

To necro or not to necro...

Not that I promise to abide by the results or anything, just interesting what most people think.  Ultimately - bitch all you want, it's up to the poster (or the moderator demigods).  Not that people should go overboard, of course, even a committed necrophile like myself only does it about 1/5th of the time, when it seems tasteful.

I find that bumping an old thread often has many advantages - old ideas have a chance to be revisited, the wheel isn't reinvented on a different thread, longer threads mean conversations can get more sophisticated, the incentive to write well is raised since it won't be "out of sight and mind" in a few days, you get exposed to more points of view since people seem to come and go, the nostalgia factor, etc.

I thought it showed humility and respect for what others wrote before you...

Here's my main problem with it.

It's always good to start a new thread because it helps keep the BBS active...especially if your subject was discussed in a thread 2 or 3 years ago. It's ancient history. No one even remembers these threads or some of the people replying to them, so it's best if you just start a new one and have it on the 1st page for a while where it's fresh and people don't have to read 3 pages of useless shit that was written so long ago.

If you're not sure, post a new thread. People will usually pardon your ignorance, tell you of the other thread and let the duplicate thread die. If you dupe the third thread on the front page, you deserve flak. If you dupe a thread on the third page, sure, bring that back as long as you have something to say (not just a lol). If you dupe a thread that's going on it's third year, GTFO.
