I voted NJ because I'm here and I'm happy.  :D

It could be better, of course, but the career benefits outweigh the high taxes.

I put Missouri because I grew up there, and saw first hand how they dealt with the home-schooling system.
They basically butt out.

I, personally was mostly homeschooled, I went to a non-accredited Christian school for a bit as well, and then just took my GED and started college when I was done.
No one government official ever bothered my parents at all.
About 4 years ago, my parents decided to send my little brother and sister to public school... after two years they decided that was not so good of an idea, and pulled them back out. No one asked any questions. My sis is in a private school, while my brother, 16, will be taking his GED this summer and starting college next fall.

Missouri leaves it to the parents to decide, which is as it should be.

I also recall, when I worked at the high school as a choir accompanist... the girl that played piano for the high school jazz band was homeschooled. She  just came in once every other day for practice. The school didn't give her parents any grief about it because hey, they pay taxes, right?!

Wow... I didn't realize that you even HAD to register in some states??!! That's just ridiculous!
Glad I know now!

My brother and I were homeschooled when we lived in California. That was fun.

Georgia requires annual filing of intent to homeschool, the beginning and ending dates for your school year, and that you keep an attendance record. Oh. The standardized testing is required, as well.

You don't have to keep journal of lessons plans and progress reports, but you'd better. If the decision to go back into government schools is made at some point, you'll need them to keep many school administrators from placing your child(ren) into remedial classes.

I remember one year we had to do standardized testing and there was a physical portion of it.. maybe I was in the first or second grade and they told me to skip from one line to another and I couldn't do it. (I had never learned what that was, I guess.)

I fail government tests!

What do you mean by "the dirty dirty" Cps?

You might be right there... if TX ever does pass legislation against homeschooling, their CPS will be the first to remove the kids!

I still think that MO has the best laws. OK isn't bad either, but I think we're still moving to Texas :-P

Didn't they just get concealed carry laws?
