How do you define sexual orientation?

All people are straight.
People are either straight, bisexual, or gay.
Sexuality is fluid, no one is straight or gay.
Everyone is bisexual.

Sexual Orientation
« on: January 11, 2007, 07:21:10 PM »

I was just curious to see how people identify sexually, and how they feel about sexual orientation. Personally I feel like sexuality is fairly fluid. I see people as falling somewhere on a 1-10 scale. 1 being gay 10 being straight. It seems that in my personal experience someone who is a 7 has a range of 6-8 with 7 being their average. Any thoughts?

I'm 100% straight. You're 100% bi. Gay_Libertarian is 100% gay.

What about sadism, masochism, frotterism, bestiality, exhibitionism, and pedophilia? These are sexual orientations as well.

Anyway, your pole is a false quadlemma. I think most people are biologically predisposed to become straight, but environment can play a role as well.

I don't really consider myself bisexual. I just tell people that because that is all people can seem to understand when you tell them you like guys and girls. If I were perfectly bi why would I prefer men yet still be attracted to some women? 1 out of 4 of the people I have been with sexually have been women. Doesn't seem like 50/50 to me.

Your list of secondary sexual orientations can cover the whole bi/gay spectrum. A gay, bi, or straight person can be any of those that you just listed. Stop being a douche I think you know why none of those were listed. Generally we call your list "fetishes".

I voted fluid, but I wouldn't presume to know how your sexuality works for you. Beauty and attraction are subjective, and just as much mental as they are physical. Nature, nurture, how far your own questioning of social norms and general exploration of life take you- I think they're all factors. Different things work for different people.

Zebra you took the words out of my mouth. People always seem to argure over gay or straight, or nature vs. nurture.

So you're:

  • 69% "predominantly heterosexual, only incidentally homosexual", and
  • 50% "equally heterosexual and homosexual", and
  • 50% "predominantly homosexual, only incidentally heterosexual"  ?!

The only reason I stopped trying to woo you is because I found out you're 6'4" tall...

(EDIT: I'm like 5'7...)

If you're 6'5" like me, that's really not that big...

I've heard that people are all bi-sexual to some degree. Could be; could be. For myself, I've always been deluded into thinking women are a lot cuter than men, and I'd rather see an ugly woman naked than a good looking man. The thought to two grunting, sweaty, hairy man going at it puts me off. But, that's just me, and I suspect gays have an entirely different prospective on the matter.

In any case, for whatever reason, people are what they are, sexually, and that's just the way it is.
