First of all, seasteading is all about decentralization.

cause those little islands and boats sure do "decentralize" the groups of dissident people!?!

It's gonna take a lot of nukes, and nukes are expensive, especially in PR terms.

nukes, biologicals, chemicals...whatever...there are already plenty in the bunkers already...gathering dust...waiting to be used...
what "PR"? oh, you mean a news report like this...

"We interrupt this program to bring you the following news report"
"Freedom Island is under a thousand-year quarantine after an unknown agent killed all inhabitants earlier this afternoon"

or

"We interrupt this program to bring you the following news report"
"Freedom Island no longer exists as it seems a resupply ship was also carrying a 500megaton nuclear device that somehow detonated and cooked the whole island"

boat=same-as-above

They'll have to convince people that we're evil terrorists.

not hardly...but they already do that anyway...think Ruby Ridge...think Waco...think FLDS...think Indianapolis Baptist Temple...etc...

If we're sitting there in New Hampshire and not paying taxes, the sheep can be made angry at us for "not paying our fare share".  But if we're out there somewhere else...  maybe they'll just let us go...

cause that worked so well for the native Hawaiians...

And remember, different seasteads can have different ideologies, including greens, commies, whatever.  If the peace nuts protest taking out an asshole like Saddam, won't they protest for us as well?

some will, some won't...that worked really well for Saddam and others too...

hmmm....

1: Build a breakwater with an interior of a couple square miles.
2: Put resort hotels at the center.
3: Invite people to start businesses centered around the resorts. In a tax-free and basically unregulated environment, start up is reasonably low, and if people are staying at the hotels, payoff is high. Aquaculture, transportation, and recreation would be lucrative markets.
4: Develop permanent dwellings for workers and business owners.
5. Businesses of other sorts naturally condense around those facilities. Congratulations - you have created a floating city.

Eventually more cities could be created, with different economic specializations. Trade would begin between them. They would then build even more. It would be essentially a seaborne Hansiatic League.

I don't think that's too far fetched. It's really just a matter of building the breakwater and getting people to start businesses there. No more absurd than any new business plan, though more expensive at the outset than most.

6.  Get angry citizens to STFU about us "not paying our fair share" ... ... lest Uncle Sam (or one of his pals) would decide to spare one of its 10,000 nukes to get rid of us...  :x

Seriously.  They've been cracking down on "tax havens" pretty hard lately, in spite of the fact that they spring from the same "divine right of government" delusion as any other government...  A seasteading community could be seen as a far, far bigger threat.

That's actually the easiest part.  There are a lot of investors out there willing to take that kind of risk, and a lot of them would have ideological bias in our favor.  Various financial instruments can be used to spread the risk far and wide.  The problem is that the risk factor is unknowable, due to the possibility of government intervention.

...

noted previously...

to wit: islands and ships give little to no refuge from the lions and tigers and bears...not to mention the mercenaries or the nuke/bio/chem weapons-of-the-day choices...
