"In 1942, during World War II, HM Fort Roughs was constructed by the United Kingdom as one of the Maunsell Forts,"

Actually it was built even longer ago. I'm talking about when it was made not when we took snapshots of it. Certainly something far better could be produced now.

I see. Either way, I wouldn't live on that shit. I'm not a fan of heights, and ocean air destroys just about everything that is cool, like electronics.

Manitou Island looks gorgeous. I dont think obtaining an island is exactly that easy though.

Well, they're both (There's actually two islands) unoccupied by anyone other than some gooberment forest rangers.

I'm sure it would be a money thing. ;-)

Great I'll go buy some lotto tickets. I'll just buy enough dirt and make my own island. Unless the rangers are interested in liberty......

I didn't suggest living there. I only put Sealand forth as an example that seasteading has been done. One of the first attempts to establish a libertarian country was the Republic of Minerva. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Minerva The project might have been a success, if it had been equipped with the sort of gun Sealand possessed. Or if any sort of defense for the place had been provided.

You don't have to live there. But, if such a place existed, I'd be a citizen and spend a fair amount of time elsewhere. I'd just like to see such a place exist as an example. One thriving industry would probably be time-share condos.

If you can't live in a free country, wouldn't it at least be nice to retire in one?

Ever read Citizen of the Galaxy by Heinlein?  Seasteading reminds me of that confederation of space merchants.  They have the ultimate freedom to travel throughout the galaxy, but are total slaves to their culture.  It sounds like a great idea, but the only way you could really make it work is with a dictatorship (i.e. the owner of the ship), you can't own half a ship.
