New v. Old
« on: October 24, 2008, 12:41:57 AM »

I have recently changed the layout to my website in an attempt to make it look more professional and have better ad placement and visibility.  So, the question is which looks better.

See the old layout here

And the new one here

The new layout is a lot easier on the eyes...and I think that's the most important thing in the long run besides content.

If you're going to go all Web 2.0y, you'll need to take out some vowels. Something like RottngNatn should do.

This seems to be pretty one sided so far...

Duh.

Now what does that mean?

The new is better than the old.

I like the new layout, but feel that you should incorporate the graphic that was prominent in your old design and currently used as your signature, into the new layout in the header area. (Or a variation of the graphic)

I think that graphic is too much like the old style. I would create a completely new graphic instead.

I agree with Jizz...

A new graphic is good. When really changing a design, I include elements from the old design
a. if the client says so
b. to give a sense of familiarity to the users so the site doesn't look too alien to them
or
c. The old design was good and I didn't want to change it too much.

Overall, I just think some kind of graphic in the header would look good, whatever you make it.

I definitely agree here.  I need to make a new header, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

So I put up a new banner.  Maybe temporary maybe permanent.  Any thoughts?

The new one is more professional, and it looks great on my wide-screen laptop.  The old one shows more personality and gives me nostalgia.  Given my mood at the time I prefer the color scheme from the former, but who cares what I think - what you want to project is up to you.  Or you can let users pick themes, or rotate them - I'm sure there's a WP plug-in for that.  But it's the content that really matters.  And you do run a good blog.
