At one time, I had one in order to make myself look older. Then, when it started to work too well, I shaved it off.

Every guy ought to try a beard at least once just to see how it looks. If it repels women or scares small children, do away with the thing.

If it scares children that sounds like a good reason to keep it.

This.

My wife prefers me with a beard, but I don't like it on my cheeks, so I shave it down to a mustache extended to a goatee similarly to early Magic Johnson--but my wife makes me shave under my lower lip.

I don't have nearly enough testosterone to accomplish such a feat.

Truth is, in the history of mankind, cleanshavenness is the real fad. Let your face go back to nature boys. You'll still cut your whiskers, the only differences are 1) the frequency with which you cut them (once a week instead of once a day) and 2) the distance you cut them from your face (keep it neat). Besides, only real libertarian-minarchist-anarchist-freemarketeers have facial hair. 'nuff said.

Edit: A woman once told me she thought beards were like topiary for men.
