Oh, yeah, pictures of signs with mis-spellings and bad grammar are clearly racist.

TrollPleaseZone makes a good point. They are not clearly racist. They are meant to be just unclear enough that racists might feel comfortable waving them around whereas they wouldn't have the guts to be overtly racist because they don't want to be held accountable for it. The misspellings are done to represent what happens when someone grows up in a country with different phonemes than they are used to. The brain wires itself while setting up the speech centers and for sounds it does not hear it speech before a certain age, it cannot accurately reproduce later in life. This would be true in case of a Chinese or Japanese speaker speaking english and having issues with reproducing the l  sounds. It would also be true in a different way when an english speaker attempted to speak Russian or Japanese.

So that being said, is it racist to make fun of someone for not speaking english the same way you do or is it just low? Is it racial stereotyping? If so is that acceptable or is it a soft form of racism?

sure its racist- if you follow the trendy definition of the word today. but since asians do not seek out attention and protest, riot, etc. over bullshit, then it is an acceptable form of racism.

is it harmful though? certainly not, and a great deal of it is funny.

where is the "www.ebonicslish.com" site?

just more of the double standard.

What are the two sides of the double standard? That if you but up an ebonics version you feel that would get hammered more violently than picking on asians?

What is the trendy definition vs the non trendy one?

Neither.  Try speaking some other language badly, and people will make fun of you.  That's because people speaking languages badly can be funny.

Right again.  My wife and I get a laugh out of some things she says sometimes.

well in this sort of scenario- the double standard is that engrish can be joked about with no repercussions. its considered humorous and non offensive even though it targets a specific ethnicity.

try and do that with ebonics, dedicate a web site to make fun of how (primarily) black people misuse the english language and you'd be declared a racist who is trying to portray blacks as uneducated.

maybe this is because asians are commonly known to be high achievers, and black people are known to be at the other end of the spectrum -academically speaking.

also, the asian community doesnt try to push engrish as a legitimate native dialect and get it pushed into public schools for study, as proponents of ebonics have done.

true racism would be defined as exclusionary and harmful to a specific group based on ethnicity.

trendy racism extends beyond this into the whole PC arena where joking, criticism and opinions in general are considered offending if voiced by someone other than of that ethnicity- even when the same sentiments are shared by citizens within the ethnic group.

Use of the slur "Chink" is clearly racist. I have looked at the site and I may have missed it, yet, I don't see where that word has been used on the site. IF that term is used, then I agree the intent of that term is derogatory. But, the site in whole, I do not think has racial tones and themes. The site itself is quite funny.

The real people that need to be asked are oriental peoples. Of course, they would most likely think so. Given that I can not speak for all such people, I can not speak for all. We live in the United States of the "Offended". Someone will eventually, if it has not occurred, find it offensive.

I have an oriental co-worker who is funny as hell. He walks out and uses his fingers to open his eyes wide and always makes fun of my accent and asks if he could have a Big Mac.
I always respond, when you wok my dog I will get you a Big Mac.
No one gets offended and we laugh it off, and it's all good.
