Hunter to quit `08 GOP race! Who'll quit next?
« on: January 19, 2008, 09:14:44 PM »

(It's the third such thread in a series, since I can't reset the previous ones due to my account resetting habits (which will continue).  The second was when Brownback quit, which was reset after Tancredo, and the first one was after Tommy Thompson quit the race.)

From FoxNews.com -- GOP Candidate Duncan Hunter to Drop Out of White House Race --

Quote
Republican presidential candidate Duncan Hunter [District 52] California congressman, Vietnam veteran and evangelical Christian, tried to appeal largely on his anti illegal immigration platform but never gained traction in the primary race.

He did best in Wyoming, where he won 8 percent of the vote, finishing third behind Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson.

In the Iowa caucuses, Hunter came in a distant seventh place with less than 1 percent, only beating Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo, who already had dropped out of the race. He also finished with less than 1 percent in the New Hampshire and Michigan primaries.

"We thought we'd do much better in Nevada, but the numbers weren't there," said campaign spokesman Bob Bevill. "We were not able to get any traction."

In recent weeks Hunter, a California congressman, was forced at every stop to dispel rumors that the campaign was already dead and was unable to talk about the issues, Bevill said.

"The media has a 'vote someone off the island' mentality and Duncan Hunter was a casualty of that," said Bevill.

Hunter was elected to Congress in 1980 as part of President Reagan's sweep into power. He appealed to some conservatives by focusing on military issues and border security.

OK, so vote on who you'll think will drop out next.

I think Romney and Huckabee are the most stable right now, and McCain has the third most delegates.  Giuliani, in spite of all his problems, is still polling ahead in Florida, though it could be close.  Some are saying Giuliani will drop out if he doesn't do well in Florida

I think Thompson is the obvious choice here, except the all-but-forgotten Louisiana primary on Jan 22nd could give him a boost.  What do y'all think?

BTW, "woo hoo" on Ron Paul's second place finish in Nevada!!!

EDIT:  remember, it's "who is the MOST LIKELY to quit next", not who you'd want to quit because you dislike him the most...

i voted for giuliani.  That guy sucks.  I understand he's put all his eggs into Florida's basket.  If he doesn't win there, he's fucked...though he might take it.  who knows.  He can't be in it for the long haul, though.  Maybe if he was ALOT more humble and a bit more subtle in his fascist overtones...but thank god he's not.

but He's been doing horrible in every single primary/caucus so far.  He can't even beat Ron Paul---the man that he publically and unashamedly ridicules, and whom the media try their best to obviously ignore.  I would have loved to see his face when he was watching the NV results roll in this afternoon, reading Paul's name in Second place, just below Mitt's.  Or when Paul got nearly twice as many votes as he did in SC later that evening.

In my opinion, just kicking HIS stuttering, nationalistic, fascist ass at the polls has been one of the greatest successes of Dr. Paul's campaign.

Huckster is openly running for VP at this point, he's going to drop soon-anybody see his speech after SC..yuko-bucko.

Thompson might hang around a bit.

No real solid reson to think that.
