I'm sitting here wondering this as I'm up late not really accomplishing anything. I usually need to average out around 7, but as long as I average out individual nights can vary wildly.
-
Yeah it averages out to about 8 per night for me... 5 when I have classes in the morning, >10 when I don't. But yeah I probably need >10...
-
4 to 12 what ever it takes for me to wake up I don't use an alarm clock
most of the time it's 7
-
We have a newborn preemie baby, and I'm on indefinite leave while Mrs Velo works days.
Sleep is something I catch in between feedings, but not really even then.
Voof!
She's a sweet baby, though.
-
About 14.
-
I said 9-10 because that's what I PREFER to get. I usually only get 7, maybe 8, just because I don't go to bed early enough. On the weekends when I don't have to get up, my body lets me sleep up to 10 hours before I naturally wake up.
-
6.5-7 hours is just about perfect for me. Works well with my schedule too: 11p-6a.
I know 8 is recommended, and it's okay. Less than 5 is too little for me.
Over 9-10, when I'm not sick, is way too much. I end up with a fuzzy brain all day, though not quite as bad as when it's less than 5.
-
Sometimes I prefer two three hour 'naps' instead of a full six to eight hour sleeping session. I don't know why, but usually I do that when I got a problem to solve and just need mental down time to work on it in dreams.

I usually get between seven and nine hours of sleep, eight on average.
-
9-10 hrs. I need my beauty sleep :)
-
Is that measured with the chicken?
-
I'm asleep right now. :|
-
Sometimes I only sleep one or two hours a night when I have a crap load of work to do....I can't get much done in a 8 hour work day.....So I work like 20-40 hours, or untill I can't stay up any more, take a 1-2 hour nap, and repeat untill complete.
-
Since my schedule is so weird, it depends. Sometimes I sleep four hours a night, and sometimes I sleep 14. I've slept for as long as two days at a time, because usually I won't sleep much, and I spend the majority of my time working. Four hours seems to keep me more awake than 14 though.
-
There does seem to be such a thing as too much sleep.
Damn those bears for their ability to hibernate.

I read somewhere (forget where) that theres a lot of historical evidence from before electric lighting that most people slept in two 4 hour shifts with a 1-2 hour break between them. If I had more willpower, I would love to experiment with things like that, but I suck at life. Good thing I have a fast metabolism.

Fuck you, skinny bitch.

Don't be jealous.

Are you saying that people woke up to take a break from sleeping? :?
That is just fucking weird.

I take what I can get, as much as possible. Gotta sleep when I get the chance, 'cause sometimes I go for a few days with only a few hours per night (or day, depending on which shift I'm working).
Swing shift sucks.
I know you cant "accumulate" sleep so those lazy days when I get 10 hours are really nonsensical, but they feel good. Gotta treat yourself right when you can.
-
Usually I go to sleep at 5-6 AM. If I wake up I look at the clock. If it's before 1 PM, I go back to sleep. If I look at the clock three times before 1 PM, I go back to sleep until 3 PM. If I'm up past 8 I take a 2 hour nap, which is amazing for just being 2 hours.

At least you're happy.

That seems consistent with his sleeping habits...

I could stay up two days, no problem.

I get loopy after a certain point. My last trip to New York, the tail end of it went like this: dress rehearsal at Carnegie Hall, last minute sight-seeing, back to hotel to put on concert clothes, bus ride to Carnegie, performance (2 hours), bus ride to "dinner cruise" (which is a euphamism for a bunch of teenagers dancing to horrid music), back to hotel, last-minute packing, goofing off, showers, etc., bus ride to Jersey, get on plane, go home. Sleep. Of course nobody slept for about the entire trip, because we were too busy being like "ZOMFG MANHATTAN!" It's not our fault. How many people have heard of Venice, Florida? Anyway, moral of the story is that I ended up asking the squeaky window on the bus (on the way to Newark) if it had a mouse in its pocket. The entire front of the bus was laughing, and I was so sleep deprived that I laughed with them.
I love sleep. I'm sleep-deprived now. Can you tell?
-
Yup.
