How many posts per page should there be?
« on: November 11, 2006, 01:25:00 AM »

I noticed that there doesn't seem to be a way to set how many posts per page each user wants to see.  If there was a way, I personally would set it higher than what it is now, 15, to make it easier to text-search for a particular post.

In theory it won't slow down the loading time by much, because the vast majority of time is spent on connection and interface overhead.  So setting it to 30 wouldn't take twice as long, only perhaps 20% longer, and depending on your browser (and some server-side implementation details), the first posts might render exactly as fast.

I don't know if the board ops would make changes based on the results of this poll, but I'm just curious what everyone else thinks.

(EDIT: modified the T-carrier joke in the last option to satisfy Rancie Mutzie here... kids these days...)

The posts per page don't bother me, cause I read 'em if I'm into the discussion.

But I made the suggestion some time ago that there should be a longer list of topics on the main pages, Issues, General, etc.  I think they get lost after they flip to page 2.

The powers that be weren't interested.

I was getting 1.5 Mb/s download speed with cable for around $45/month (plus had to buy cable for another fifty).  DSL gives me about 2.6 down for $30.  Plus gotta have the phone anyway, so dropped cable.

Total savings $65 per month.  I almost never watch TV anyway, except for some stupidity on the comedy channel and some zone time on the Hitler Channel.  (History).
