I think it's irrational for me to put forth effort explaining my opinions to you.
Why?
it's called 'polite.'
If it was considered polite to throw your trash on the ground where ever you are, would you do that?
Sometimes by expending a smidgen of effort to be nice, you recoup that investment and more in the long run.
Fine. But claim that, not that people that do so are selfless, kindhearted, and polite.
MobileDigit, you nicely ignored the part of my argument
I absolutely did not. Read my post again, and respond to my actual arguments.
It's called "not being an asshole" in zebraspeak.
Please define your terms.
Isn't there a difference between being mean and not being nice?
Not everything I do is logically rational, nor do I seek to have every behavior justified through rationality.
Why shouldn't that be your goal?
How is this chain of events irrational if I recieve a benefit that I am aiming for when I voluntarily engage in an activitiy?
Because the benefit comes about through irrational means. Your emotions are, by definition, not rational.
Are you saying that your valueset on what one should be satisfied doing is better than mine for my life?
I'm saying that the reasons one should be satisfied should be rational.
I'd like to add that expecting the world to be rational is not really a logical position given empirical evidence.
I fail to see how that is relevant.
I'll refer you to this poll that I started specifically to illustrate this point. There is only one rational answer, and fewer than 50% of people here chose it. Anyway, just some food for thought.
I found it interesting.
I personally try to be rational, and it bugs me when people aren't rational, but I realize that it's just a fact of life. It's rational to accept reality
Do you disagree that rationality is superior to irrationality?
