Joomla looks nicer by default and will make you want to fucking kill yourself (or the Joomla team, or both) when you have to configure it or do anything custom.

Go Drupal. It sucks less.

Hadn't heard of Mauve & Chyrp before.. but I messed around with both Joomla & Drupal and have decided to stick with Drupal.

I think in the next couple years, forum software like this (SMF Forum) will be passé. I have a board in VBadvanced that I am thinking of replacing with Drupal.

Joomla was OK but the flow didn't seem logical- adding categories pages and content didn't seem as easy to do as with Drupal.

Check the Drupal+SMF integration. It's low-tech but works well. I use it on nhliberty.org/forum

I read a little about that here: http://drupal.org/node/112116

What is it doing for your forum? I didn't see anything there that looked too different.

So far, Drupal is really good- but much more involved than I had thought! The thing I hate about these kinds of things is that by the time I really have it sorted, a new version will be released that will be incompatible with the previous ones :)

Basically it just synchs between SMF and Drupal user account data. So, I did not have to make all the current users sign up separately for the SMF Forum. And when someone changes their SMF avatar or personal info, it's reflected on their Drupal user account as well (and vice-versa)

I've heard from colleagues of mine that Drupal is better for finding modules to integrate and also easier to train clients on using it themselves. Personally, I have little experience with either, however.
