Ugh...so confused.  I know I have to file, because I grossed more than the minimum amount listed, but I don't know exactly what to fill out, what to file, how to "file", who to give it to, and why my W2 hasn't come yet.

Use the 1040EZ. It's nice and short.

The boxes on your W2 are all numbered. The boxes of the 1040 are also all numbered. You take numbers from some of the numbered boxes on your W2, put them in some other numbered boxes on your 1040. Add and subtract some numbers, and eventually you get a number you look up in a big table in order to get another number. You compare that new number to one of the other numbers and that tells you whether you're supposed to give them more money or if they're supposed to give you back some money. Chances are about 90% or more that they'll have to send you money. You send them the 1040, they send you a check (or direct deposit it if you give them that info).

How does one procure this 1040?

They ought to send it in the mail.

On the 1040EZ - it is simpler, but if you're trying to get as much money back from the swine as you can, the long form allows you to find/take more deductions.

The IRS sends one to my house every year, though that may have started after the first year I filed. They have them in post offices too, but by far the easiest way is getting a PDF off irs.gov. They even have it editable so you can fill it out on the computer.

I probably don't have any applicable deductions.  None of my bills are in my name, except for my credit card.

1040: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040.pdf
1040EZ: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040ez.pdf

Also Linds, your W2 typically will arrive in the mail by the end of January. If you don't have it by the beginning of February, ask you employer. There's an alternate W2 you can fill out yourself if you never receive it, 4852, but you need last year's final pay stub to fill it out.

Thanks.   :D  I do have my final pay stub, just in case.  In fact, freakishly enough, I have most of them.

NONONO

Deductions are long form.

Thats why they call this one the EZ.

You can get it at the post office, they have big stacks.  Take ten, they are free.

You can not qualify for deductions unless you have a shitload of cash going out to things like a mortgage, charitable deductions, stocks and bonds, and not chump shit like three grand from grandpa's will.

Deductions must exceed a large amount, ten grand?  I donno, buit its large.

EZ is for me and you and that guy over there...

So, you take the 1040EZ and fill it out, seriously, you just fill it out.  It goes through steps, you use your W2 and take the numbers from certain lines and pop them into the spots they correspond to.

It says right on the form this line contains the number listed on the W2 on line 14, so, look at the W2, and low and behold, line 14, copy it to the other form.

Its simple.

Seriously.

Then, add it all up, its a long arithmatic problem, add add add, subtract this line, sub-total.  Sub-total minus this and this equals, total.  You just go right down, read and answer.  line by line.

-------

I didnt know about the 4852 -  Thats interesting.

The W2 could arrive in mid feburary, I think the deadline is 1-31 for companies to have it sent, but they can get exttensions pretty easily.  Its just an OOPS form.  Meaning, oops, I fucked up, heres the form.

When I immigrate to USA. I am quite afraid of IRS. I want to do the right thing. But I know they will not do the right thing. So whatever I do I am fucked. Either I get robbed or I get the IRS on my back.

You set yourself up to it by affirming you are a taxpayer somehow. It is a tricky and fraudulent system indeed. Even so I recommend you study law. It is good to know when you have a government scamming you ion every opportunity it can.

Redundant.
