do you obey the law
« on: December 15, 2007, 09:52:43 PM »

if you can think of another answer post it in the thread. I wonder how people view the law. btw I don't consider speeding to count think more "crimes" that could result in jail time. and yes I know speeding can end up with jail time but you know what I mean.

some photoshop guy has to put a constitution with one of those weird Judge Dredd helmets on it, and have it say "I AM THE LAWW"

there are so many laws that I couldn't possibly know if I'm breaking them or not, even though I still get busted even if I don't take 3 years to go through all the laws that are on the books.  I believe in MA that there was a law (I think still on the books up until recently) that didn't allow "savages" into government buildings. . . . and it explained the word savage as meaning, of course, the American Indians.  So some guy with "one drop" of American Indian blood would technically be breaking the law if he entered a post office.

you gotta take it in baby steps. . . steps 1, 2, and 3

maybe we just get rid of all the stupid laws first. . . Step 1

relax because there are no laws. . . Step 2

prosper. . . Step 3

no laws at all?  none?  :?

relax man I think there are always natural laws. . . don't fucking kill, rape, initiate force, steal from people.   In other words, don't be a fucking dick.

relax there are always laws some of us just choose to call it common sense.

Yes, but only so I don't get in trouble.  Though I do speed a lot.  But so fucking what, I don't try to go faster than the person in front of me and I don't weave in and out of traffic like a crackhead driving a car with three wheels.

I think I obey the law most of the time, but there are so many that I'm sure I unwittingly break a few every day.  In any case, I seem to be getting along fine doing what I'm doing.  I tend to obey the laws that I'm aware of with few exceptions.

I also did a lot of underage drinking and had a lot of underage sex.  Now that I'm of age, I've lost the appeal.

Are there lots of crackheads in 3-wheeled cars in Florida?

Believe it or not, I've seen some crackheads, and I've seen cars missing wheels.  It's hard to tell whether or not the cars missing the wheels specifically contained crackheads or not.  I guess they could have fleas.

Speaking of driving, on my way home tonight I saw this mangled car on the side of the road with a huge banner that said something about driving safely.  They used to park one of those in the courtyard along the boulevard of my high school before prom and homecoming to show us that drinking was bad, especially when you drive.  Buckle up for safety, bitches.

I think most people are criminals, choosing which laws to obey and which to violate.

Recently, I was forced into the conclusion that I am a criminal. Not just any criminal, but a felon. Oh, I've driven five miles an hour over the limit from time to time, and may not always compile to the letter on every zoning code. But those are just petty crimes. No--I have done far worse than simply roll through the occasional stop sign. In fact, I'm usually a careful driver.

But, I am not so careful in other areas. Once, I inadvertently smuggled a weapon across the border. I forgot about a pocket knife buried in the bottom of my suitcase until, too late, I had already rolled up to the gate at the border crossing. When asked if I had any weapons with me, I lied and said I did not. Fortunately, I escaped justice at that time and the guard did not search my vehicle.

Had he done so, he might have discovered the prescription medications that I had stored away in measured out doses. It does not matter that these blood pressure and cholesterol drugs were all prescribed by a doctor. The fact that they were not in the prescription bottle was a violation of the law, and therefore rendered me a dangerous drug felon.

But I have done worse than that. On occasion, I have given my wife one of my alprazolam tablets, prescribed to me for occasional use to control anxiety. I rarely use these except for such things as getting on an airplane. Giving a rare pill to my wife is considered the supplying of a controlled substance and is a felony of the most egregious order.

Not that my wife is innocent, by any means. On numerous occasions, she has violated the statutes by keeping drugs past the allotted date of the prescription. If caught, she could be subject to harsh penalties, including prison time.

And then there is the matter of pornography. As with most computer users, I get tons of spam, despite having a firewall and anti-virus program. Much of the spam consists of links to pornographic websites, with some of these websites containing child pornography. In most cases, I never click on spam. But, sometimes it's difficult to recognize what is spam and what is legitimate email. Can I be certain that there is no illegal child porn residing on my computer, even though I've taken every precaution to prevent this? The courts have ruled that my lack of knowledge in such cases does not necessarily protect me from legal action.

I have a home wi-fi network. This is unsecured, since the system was difficult to set up and I fear that messing around with it may mess it up. Congress recently passed legislation that makes me responsible if some stranger accesses my system and uses it to download kiddy porn without my knowledge.

I don't think that I am much different from most Americans. As with most, I try to do the right thing, and don't violate any person's rights intentionally. I believe most people are as criminal as I am.

Have you ever carried anything prohibited aboard a plane or over the border? Do you have any prescription medications in a container other than the one that came from the pharmacist? Do you ever share medications with a spouse or other family member? I already know you speed, fudge on your income tax, and bend the occasional zoning laws.

If you answer yes to any of these, then congratulations--you belong to the ranks of millions of people who are criminals. As with me, you simply haven't been caught yet.

At this point, I don't go out of my way to break the law, but in general, I don't go out of my way to follow it either.  If it's a stupid law, and I think I can get away with it, I have no problems breaking it.  If I think there's a good chance I will get caught, though (although this might change once I'm in NH), like if there's a police officer right in front of me, then I'll probably follow it for the sake of not getting thrown in jail.

I got a family to think about, not just myself. Therefore, I generally behave.
But, I believe there is a thin line. Even where the law is concerned, I think there is a line. Once you cross this imaginary line, you are considered in violation of the law. I have gotten very good at never crossing the line, but walking upon it.
I would never break a law if it hurts someone, physically or otherwise.
