You see, there is a certain logic to constancy. Of course, this day and age I guess it doesn't really matter what people say or do...I guess at this point we can all just change our names or take the last name of the wifey and then before too long we will all be related and have children with four heads and four separate names each.

Change it; keep it, makes no matter to me. I'd take which ever you like the best. I don't much care for hyphenated names. Some women who've married a few times start stringing names together like a necklace. Mary Smith-Jones-Black-Sampson-etc.

It might be nice if couples both decided on a name for their marriage, and both changed their name to that. 

right on I don't care what and wife of mine would do when I meet her, the only think I say is don't do the hyphen it makes it harder for others to do paperwork. but what name should the kids get, I say the female children should take the mothers name and the male children should take the fathers. how does everyone else feel about this

I wouldn't expect my wife to change her name since I plan on keeping mine.  I prefer to stay away from hyphenation though.  As far as kids go, I figure it wouldn't be too hard to alternate surnames and possibly make the middle name the last name that isn't used.
