Bring Back Post Counts and Karma
« on: March 25, 2008, 08:19:51 PM »

Sure, people intentionally pad their post counts with spam, but I feel like those people should be dealt with individually rather than hurting everyone. And Karma (being able to rate people up or down) is nothing but a market reputation solution. You can tell at a glance whether a poster is likely to be well versed in what he's saying, or talking out his ass. Bring back both I say.

Post count info. is available in the profile.

Which is why is makes zero sense to not have it on individual posts, as well.

Post counts would make it easier to keep track of Brasky.

How about an option for "I just don't care?"

If the powers that be decide to pay any attention to this poll, they should check ISPs for sock puppet votes first.

The internet is the source of a lot of childish fighting. That doesn't mean we should get rid of it entirely.

You know, it doesn't much bother me.  It may have in the past, but I don't think it has made a positive or a negative impact on my BBS experience here.  I still like the place.

Post counts are a quantity indicator.  Quality matters more.

Karma is a popularity contest.  Haven't cared about that since high school, and if I'd cared less about it then, I'd probably be more successful now.  It encourages groupthink over individual expression.

I got a call tonight from my class reunion organizers wanting to know if I was going to attend the fortieth (!) high school class reunion. "I hated high school," I said.  "Why on earth would I want to go back to that hell?"
