Then, boom.  My steak is an inferno. 

FUCK!  Smoke is now billowing out of the oven, the fat is boiling fire.  My steak is in a boiling, flaming lake of fire.

On an electric stove, the red hot element bolted to the inside roof of the oven. 

Gas stove?

No.  I hate gas ovens.  Normal models of gas stove have the broiler down near the floor, for some reason they think you want to cook with your feet.  I wish I could get a gas range with an electric oven.  But if someone out there is granting wishes, forget I even mentioned kitchen appliances.
