Best type of commercial
« on: January 23, 2013, 01:37:12 PM »

By now most listeners should have heard the new Quantum Vibe jingle. I've been wondering how effective it is, and want to ask people here what they think about it. Is a jingle better than the type where an announcer describes the strip over background music (voice-over), or where I get Mark to read a script (read-aloud), or does it matter? Which type of commercial makes you more likely to go and read the comic?

Marks reading ads leave something to be desired, i.e. when he acts like an older person to purposely mispronounce some new technology. MARK, WE KNOW YOU KNOW HOW TO SAY "FACEBOOK".

Back on topic, that Quantum Vibe jingle is fucking amazing. I have been caught singing it hours after hearing it. Marketing value: very high for me. However, I havent gone and actually read the comic yet. I'm not much of an online comic person however right now, so a lack of click-through there is not something I'd worry about. Overall, great catchy jingle that I actually look forward to hearing. "zany creatures, made with genetically engineered features" is hilarious.

It all depends on what part of the brain you are trying to appeal to I suppose.

Lets say that I'm thinking about buying a log splitter and I hear a nice jingle, similar to the Q5 jingle, trying to sell me one. That's probably not gonna appeal to the caveman side of my brain that wants good solid information on the pro's of buying your companies particular log splitter. On the other hand, if I hear some voice-over of Joey Diaz with some death metal blaring in the background saying "LISTEN HEAH COCKSUCKAS.... YOU GOT LOTS OF LOGS TO SPLIT? WELL, I'M HERE TO TELL YA, THIS SONOFABITCH WILL SPLIT ALL THE MUTHA-FUCKIN LOGS YOU'LL EVER SEE IN YA LIFE!!! IT'S POWERFUL, SO DON'T GO FUCKIN' AROUND WITH SOME SISSY BOY LOG SPLITTER YOU SEE IN SOME BOX STORE.......THIS IS THE COCKSUCKA YOU WANT.....OH, AND WATCH YA ARMS N LEGS, CUZ THIS THING WILL TAKE EM RIGHT OFF IF YA NOT CAREFUL!!!" That will probably make me say "Oh shit son, I gotta check this thing out!" and I'll probably buy it if its even half as good as he described it.

Comic strips? Not so much, since that type of product doesn't appeal to my caveman brain. It's more of a creative/imagination thing which would be better served with a jingle such as yours. It gives a basic description through music, so you already have the correct part of the brain paying attention. You don't want some boring voice-over actor breaking it down for ya.

You did it right.

For the longest time I thought the commercial was saying "Quantum 5" - I searched Google for that once, found nothing and never looked again. I thought the jingle was a bit irritating - fairly well produced, but annoying. I don't generally read comics anyway - I looked at one of the Big Head Press comics that was advertised with FTL a while back, but it just ran on and on and didn't go anywhere so I stopped reading it. I do frequent the Goblins comic, but that's getting a bit long in the tooth as well - it's barely includes the Goblins anymore.
