I highly, highly reccomend Children of Men. The trailers make it looks kind of mamby-pamby, if you will, but they fail to fully represent the movie (obviously).
Extreme chaos is what this movie is all about. From the start to the end, the chaos and panic never cease. The movie executes the depiction of such chaos and panic, that can instill viewers with such feelings. In peaceful, quiet moments of the movie, one inevitably must wonder "what's the next step?".
The action in Children of Men (hereafter referred to CoM) is absolutely wonderful. The camera focuses primarily on the main characters through the entire movie, and many action scenes are transitioned into without warning or a clear break in the mood. One action scene takes place on the road, and the camera simply turns and focuses on developing threats. The violence in CoM is depicted with amazing skill and consideration. Though the violence is not gory, and not overly bloody, it is jarring the core. It feels very, very realistic.
Children of Men boasts extremely well exectuted action scenes, a believeable, gritty, and detailed setting, and an excellent pacing of downtime between action. Bottom line: See it.
