Since people here know chemistry, what's up with Splenda? I love it, it tastes like real sugar, and I drink my cranberry and vodkas with light cranberry juice, sweetened with Splenda. I know it is an alcohol, so health-wise, am I doing extra damage to my liver, or should I just worry about my booze and forget about the Splenda?
It's almost the same as sugar.  But instead of using glucose + fructose it uses galactose + fructose.  Your body cannot digest galactose.  That's the only difference.  You shit it out.  Doesn't make a damn difference, don't worry about it.

i love reading shit like this.  10mg/kg of aspartame.  a typical equal packet has a mass of .5g and contains 1.7% aspartame.  that would then mean that each packet has 8.5mg of aspartame.  The average mass of the human male is 86.6kg, so in order to get the allotment provided to those rats you would need to consume 100 packets of equal at a single sitting.  i know i like my tea sweet, but not that sweet.

I wouldn't drink it f I weren't a diabetic.

Also, any ingredient ending in "ose" is some form of sweetener.

"Sugar Alcohol" is in a lot of stuff too- super sweet. I don't like it.

Anything ending in "ose" is a carbohydrate.  Sugar alcohol is simply glucose with an alcohol (-OH) tail.

Great generalization, but until you run half-marathons every Friday like I did for 2 1/2 years, you shouldn't generalize. It makes you look silly.
