I went to NYC in December... bought a car and drove it back to Kansas.
I will never ever go back to Brooklyn if I have anything to say about it. Half the roads had little to no lane markings, three lanes wide, with people driving like shit everywhere! People double parked on BUSY streets. Half the roads are like a damn Baja race. You know, we have some the best roads I've ever driven on, here in Wichita KS, so I never thought about it much, but anyone who argues against private roads -- just sent them to Brooklyn. Holy crap.
The craziest thing was staying at a Days Inn (for $150, and it was the cheapest I could find!) in what I THOUGHT was a ghetto (south side of Brooklyn)... really trashy and run down buildings. However I noticed all the cars were $50k+ in value... odd dichotomy.
The Brooklyn Bridge at about 11AM was fun... its like what, 6 lanes wide, and you get to the tollbooths and theres like 24 counting both sides of the bridge, total pandemonium... and you have to pay $10 just to experience it. I'm REALLY suprised I made it to Pennsylvania without making a wrong turn even once.
Now, PA on the other hand was awesome. The main east/west interstate (forget what it is now... 80?) is very scenic and never hits a major city!
