Title: Adults acting like children
Post by: vagabond on July 10, 2007, 10:18:12 AM
Just listened to show on 2007-07-09 about adults acting like children in the workplace.

Turn out my boss is wanting to buy a games console for the office. Which console do you think provides the most adult fun :)

I own a Wii, because I like digging into the Marios and Zeldas of my childhood, and its a great drunken party tool.

Wii. It's just the best all around.

I have a Wii and a 360. I play with my Wii more.

However, the 360 does have Viva Piñata which has been an addiction in our house for a few weeks now.

Super Monkey Ball for the win!

I remember a kid wetting himself because the teacher wouldn't let him get up during a Duck Duck Goose game. Fascist.

The Wii for sure.  I could never get my grandma or step-mom to play videogames before it.  Millions of adults did play the original nintendo (but not the SNES).

I would say the PS3 because it's the most capable of the bunch.  The Wii is probably the most user-friendly console (though we have one and we've had a lot of problems with it...broken controller, then broken wireless radio on the console itself) so it's very adult-friendly in the sense that you don't have to get really into it to enjoy most of the features that it offers and you can pick it up quickly.  Honestly, I don't really think any of them are that great.  The PS3 is too expensive; the XBox 360 has hardware problems and the controller sucks (my opinion); and the Wii doesn't support HD resolutions.  I'd love an HD-capable Wii or a cheaper PS3 :)

The Wii does support 480i though, and old Gamecube games look badass on it.

I agree. There is something very disturbing about this video game culture. I don't understand why a grown male would choose to sit and fiddle with a joystick (or whatever their calling them these days). I've also noticed a bunch of women on here TALKIN' ABOUT VIDEO GAMES!??!?! What the hell is going on over here?

I will admit that I play a "video game". It's a poker game to help me learn how to play the real game:
http://www.dragongamez.com/texasholdem.htm

If you are being stimulated by Donkey Kong, Mario Brothers, or some other type game designed for young kids, then what are ya'll missing? I just don't get it. There are a bunch of you out there yapping about Anime...but nobody is talking about Donatello's David, or Jean Luc Godard, and plenty of other things designed to stimulate a mature mind.

It's bad enough that Libertarianism is soaking in science-fiction star trek geekazoid stuff, and to add video games to the mix, makes me think you libertarians are simply out of it. There is very little sophistication over here. I might just protest by cancelling my account...again.

Are you fucking serious? You ever stop to think about why libertarians like sci-fi? Or that video games are fun to people, simply because, well, they're fun.

I'm sorry, but while I love the arts as much as anyone (Peking Opera anyone?) I enjoy video games as a form of social entertainment.  They're called controllers (or wiimotes) by the way.  No home gaming console since the Atari 2600's time has used a true joystick.

We're glad you're gone, petaQ.  Now do us a favor and stay away, would you?

Frankly, I still enjoy occasionally playing Warlords on MAME (2600 emulator), from time to time.  However, I'm glad I don't have a console, because I used to waste way too much time playing both console and computer games.

Hey Shiny,

my uncle Richard told to me to tell you that he hates you.

Video gaming is just as bad as those people who know a lot about shows like American Idol and all that similar type programming. I can't believe that sometimes I go to parties and there's a bunch of guys sitting around getting high and playing videogames, while their girlfriends sit there watching bored out of their minds.

I used to see this gal...she despised my cigarette smoking, but she told me that the worst is when guys play video games...I think she even used the word "retarded". And she was right. Imagine the psychological damage when yer lover wants to interact with you, but yer more interested in trying to pass some "difficult" level, in some crappy ass video game. The "gamer" has a very nifty solution to this problem...he tries to get his girlfriend to play video games with him!!! LOL!!! Talk about degradation!

anywayz, Shinyvandal uses the word "petaQ". If you are like me and you are not a geekazoid from the Planet Nerdir, then you are probably wondering what a "petaQ" is. Well, I had to google it...turns out Shiny is using the Klingon star trek language, and it is supposed to be an insult. LOL!

anywayz, I rest my case.

"Anyways" is spelled incorrectly, though I'm sure that its use in this context is questionable.  The word "anyway" would suffice.  You also seem to have issues with the Shift key.

That show had a point though.

Adults who act and think like children are mentally ill.  Look, being an adult means you have more responsibility.  That's the way it IS in EVERY culture!!

So quit being pussies and adapt.

Wii is best for multiplayer.

360 is best for playing over the internet or by yourself

PS3 is best if you want a bluray player

I'm leaning on boyfriend to get an Xbox 360 so we can play Mass Effect.  He's getting WoW this weekend, so we can play it together.  I got him a Nintendo DS for his birthday last year, and we've been playing Animal Crossing ever since.

My brother and his family got a Wii, and everybody  played it over Christmas.  Definitely recommended for people who otherwise aren't very interested in video games.

Bioshock is Atlas Shrugged, only bloodier and, you know, the best game of 2007.

Have you played Assassin’s Creed?

My bf has it and it looks a little intimidating to me...plus those gay beggers asking you for money and shit got me all kinds of annoyed.

Its the most repetitive thing I have ever played in my entire life.

what about pac man...that shit gets on ma nerves.

Bioshock really is a thinking man's shooter, along the lines of Half Life.

Well, it's the only video game I've ever played, save for the time I played Mario on the Nintendo 64 for like, 10 minutes.  I couldn't get past the first world on the first level or whatever.  So of course I have no idea what you're talking about - I just wanted to participate.

Me too. ..loved Sonic! I was a big Crash Bandicoot fan, later. I don't have any gaming consoles, right now, though. :( Just been playin' Elder Scrolls on my PC. I was fixin' to buy a PS3 in preparation for Resident Evil 5; but, it looks like they're going to make them for the 360, too.

Elder Scrolls on 360 is bomb. I love to play/watch people play. I also love how when they say "take care" it always sounds like "dick hair" and makes me lol.

RE5 looks amazing too...im so excited about that one. Did you read that article about how alot of afro activist are pissed off because it is "racist." It shows a white male killing black African zombies? LOL gtfo!

Bioshock was dope, I played it on PC.  Unfortunately I cant play Mass Effect because I'm not planning on purchasing a new gaming console any time soon.

Yeah Bioshock is pretty amazing. There are a lot of people who don't like for whatever reason. It's been pigeon-holed as a shooter, but it requires a lot more thought than, say, Gears of War. The story is top notch as well.
