My question is --- Why? Seriously, why waste your money on some stupid, self-destructive, mind altering substance that does nothing for you? What does it even do for you, honestly?

Only to have a full day or full night's worth of a strange, beautiful experience, like dreaming while still awake, that you will remember forever.  Of course, that's just my reason. 

Whatever floats your boat. Just don't get addicted to the stuff or allow it to displace all the rest of the good stuff in your life that makes life good. Personally, I don't even drink. Lifes too good, even at its worst, to waste time on dreaming. Ever tried hiking? Days worth of strange, beautiful, living here and now that you will remember forever.

I've gone hiking and taken acid, and they are nothing alike. Acid is definitely not for everyone, but it doesn't mean that everyone who eats it is unsatisfied with life. Like I said, I only reserve it for special occasions nowadays, and I'm extremely satisfied with life. It's just gives you a change of perspective, and an experience that can't be duplicated.

Yes, I've tried hiking...many, many times, and I am sure I will many, many more.  I've also hiked while on acid-- now, that was an experience!  If I wasn't living in the "here and now," where the hell was I living?  In the then and elsewhere? 

One could just as easily consider hiking an escape from reality, you know.  One could consider anything another person does purely for the pleasure and beauty of it a waste of time, if it isn't their  particular cup of tea.  The ultimate arbiter of whether the time you spend in your life is a "waste" is you.   If it's valuable and meaningful for you, then it pretty clearly isn't wasted.

Just don't go and get yourself killed or arrested. God knows libertarians are rare enough as it is. It's actually not anything like that.  Whatever stories you've heard about people thinking they can fly and throwing themselves off buildings, microwaving babies, etc. are almost certainly bullshit.   If I had no concern for my own welfare and a keen desire to get myself irrationally punished or killed, I would do much better to join the military.

And please, I object to lumping meth and pot in the same collection. They're both "drugs" only in the sense that they both have an effect on people, and are composed of matter which takes up space and has mass. You may as well include sugar and capsaicin in the list.

Kids, let me assure you that while this may sound cool it was not.  I learned a very costly ($2500) lesson from my experience and I can sum up quite succinctly:

1.  Do not convince yourself that time no longer exists.  Acid may be powerful, but it's not that powerful.
2.  If you do manage to convince yourself of this, do not draw the conclusion that you no longer need to sleep.
