Poll

Nick Hexum has to be the most Libertarian song writer in mainstream music right?

Yes
No
Yes, but he needs to sing about more then just the war on drugs
He will be until Lew Rockwell starts a band

Any band that wrote a song called "Guns Are For Pussies" is not libertarian. 311 sucks, they have the dumbest lyrics, they make Vanilla Ice look like a good songwriter.

Guns are for pussies is not a anti-gun song or in any way implies they think guns should be illegal.

If anything, they are just saying a real man fights with his fists and doesnt need a weapon.

Which is bull.

P-NUT:
I like to think I had a lot of influence on those lyrics. Me and Nick wanted to write those lyrics because it's just so factual. I'm always bitching about my friends who pack guns. It sucks--there is so much fear that isn't necessary.

So they're saying amputees and other disabled people are pussies?

I don't know if it counts as Libertarian if I cannot understand what they are talking about.

You kids today with your MTV and rock n' roll...

Try some Steely Dan. Gotta love a band named after a steam-powered dildo.

Agents of the law
Luckless pedestrian
I know you're out there
With rage in your eyes and your megaphones
Saying all is forgiven
Mad Dog surrender
How can I answer
A man of my mind can do anything

CHORUS:
I'm a bookkeeper's son
I don't want to shoot no one
Well I crossed my old man back in Oregon
Don't take me alive
Got a case of dynamite
I could hold out here all night
Yes I crossed my old man back in Oregon
Don't take me alive

Can you hear the evil crowd
The lies and the laughter
I hear my inside
The mechanized hum of another world
Where no sun is shining
No red light flashing
Here in this darkness
I know what I've done
I know all at once who I am

I'll quote an over-quoted Rush song that promotes Libertarian views:

The Trees

There is unrest in the forest,
There is trouble with the trees,
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas.

The trouble with the maples,
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade.

There is trouble in the forest,
And the creatures all have fled,
As the maples scream "Oppression!"
And the oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights.
"The oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light."
Now there's no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe, and saw.

Anti authority doesn't equal Libertarian, so far as I'm concerned. Libertarian music should, if written out of a anger, identify and strike at the source of the issues, not just complain about the injustice of it all. Rush has always been good at this. 311 seems to be a bunch of pissing and moaning about problems, which is fine, but not my cup of tea and only half of the equation.

I still like Patrick Henry's hit song "Give me liberty or give me death"

Was that the one with the guitar solo in the middle?

That's the extended version, it's only on the single
