Title: 'Anarchy' as a noun ('an anarchy')
Post by: MobileDigit on April 11, 2007, 01:47:41 PM
I don't think this term makes sense. You can call something a democracy because it has clearly defined regions (all the people that can vote), but how can one make a logical distinction between government and a gang?

How?
By caring.

According to Lindsey one does not need feelings to care.

Just as we call outer space "a vacuum", we can call a region "an anarchy".

This doesn't answer my question:

how can one make a logical distinction between government and a gang?

Governments say they rightfully own you. Other kinds of gangs don't.

Anarchy is a noun, but not all nouns are correctly preceded by articles (as in "an anarchy.")  For example: "Anarchy is the state of being without rule."  "Anarchy is good."

Governments say they rightfully own you. Other kinds of gangs don't.

Don't they implicitly by aggressing against you?

Functionally, there is no distinction between government and a gang.  Why is this distinction relevant?

Because if one uses the term an anarchy it implies that there are clearly defined edges.
