Shameless Self Promotion (a.k.a. begging for $$)
« on: November 17, 2011, 07:48:01 PM »

I may be a "heartless" libertarian who doesn't want to give up my hard-earned money to government redistribution programs, but I do gladly give both time and money to private organizations I think are doing good.

Girls on the Run is one of those groups. I've been a coach to 15 girls each season for three seasons now, helping them get ready for their first 5k race. The goal is to get elementary school girls taking a more active role in their health and happiness through running. Sure, there's a lot of talk about feelings, and a bit more pink glitter than I'm generally comfortable with, but the program does do something I LOVE - builds self esteem through reaching for and meeting goals.

I will be running the 2012 Georgia Marathon as a Girls on the Run SoleMate and am raising money for the Atlanta chapter. I would really appreciate it if you would follow this link http://www.active.com/donate/gotratlantasm/JSandoz and make a donation.

Nevermind, I didn't want a swig of 200 yr old uncapped whiskey anyway. I decided to give regardless.

Just look out for my "Hookers & Blow" money bomb next month. Its gonna be a doozie. :P

Thanks, Brasky. And, thank you to everybody who's donated so far. This is the first time I'll be running as part of a fundraising team, and I'm kind of excited about it.

Will contributions to your H&B money bomb be tax deductible? It's that time of year.

You can try, but your accountant will probably give you one of these...............

Girls on the Run of Atlanta is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and all donations are fully tax-deductible.

Mike's program is thus far illegal, but nonetheless keeps young girls active.

Thanks!

Got through my first 2012 marathon last weekend of January, and am going to start running with the weekly group at the local running store. Really excited about March - it's going to be a two marathon month :D

Race was this past Sunday. Wilted in the early summer heat, but it was a beautiful day running past blooming cherry and dogwood trees, through the drifting clouds of pollen. All for a good cause, of course - and another race shirt.

Just wanted to thank everyone who donated to Girls on the Run for me. You guys rock!

I think that is what is most important in sports, being able to build your self esteem through seeing your own goals. You are doing great coach!
