General / Re: Some Morning Commutes are Way More Fun Than Others

Not my thing, but some sick stuff there.  Circling around the Segway and some of the other stuff takes some serious skills.  I'd rather be in a car going doing a quarter mile in 6 seconds in a straight line than this, but still cool.

I agree, I get annoyed with all the advertising inside the community.  I'd rather just have a show come right out and ask for donations so they don't have to have advertisers.  That being said, there is a huge issue with podcasts that is creeping up and I'm not sure what the answer is.  There are almost too many podcasts, not just in the liberty area either.

I mean, just in the liberty area you have (not counting FTL which is radio) Liberty Conspiracy, School Sucks, Complete Liberty, No State Project, Thinking Liberty, Declare Your Independence, No Agenda, Freedomain Radio, and a bunch on BlogTalk Radio.  Nobody can possibly listen to all of these shows and stay sane.  This is why I really like LRN, because it showcases a lot of these shows.  I'd rather donate to LRN and have LRN feed some of that money back to the podcasters, similar to how twit.tv does it with their podcast network of tech shows (only they make money from advertisers, which seriously hinders what they can openly criticize and talk about sometimes).

So, this got me thinking.  What if there was a place, besides LRN (which takes advertising money), where you could get all the liberty podcasts and just donate to that one site and have the money flow to the podcasters on the site?  Obviously, if you didn't like some of the shows and didn't want to support them, you'd be better off making show donations to individual shows at their respective sites.  But, if you liked a majority of the shows, why not donate to a site that organizes and hosts the shows and would funnel those donations to the podcasters?

The other problem is podcasting isn't all that cheap in the grand scheme of things unless you're using something like BlogTalk Radio where they do all the hosting and streaming.  BTW, BlogTalk Radio sucks ass.

I don't know the right answer to this, just throwing an idea out there.

General / Re: Stupidest Example of Intrusive Government

More of an example of Big Pharma tangled with the government, not allowing alternatives to compete in the market easily.

From what I've read, most expired medicine stuff just loses effectiveness, unlike food that expires and gets quite nasty.

It would never happen.  If voting made a difference in most governments (besides local), it'd be illegal.

There are three ways to handle this issue:
  • Continue the way things are now and hope that the crap don't blow up -- ignorance
  • Work on a local level to implement policies and vote in people that would start to abolish bad laws and taxes -- delusional but could happen over the course of many years as it builds from town to city to county to state and then to federal
  • Ignore the system, withdraw from the system, get off the grid, grow your own food, show people the fallacy of the government, clog up the judicial system so bad that it grinds to a halt -- possibly delusional but could happen over the course of many years

And after typing all that out, I realize that is exactly describing the FSP.  I see the country stuck in the ignorance way of thinking and keep on voting.  I mean seriously, look what Obama did to the masses with his "Hope and Change" and look how we got more of the same.  I think people just want to keep burying their heads in the sand thinking voting still makes a difference.

General / Re: Why The LastBiscuit business model doesn't work
« on: September 14, 2010, 05:48:16 AM »
Let's say I wanted to do what Momma Ally was doing, only what if instead of selling the stuff I made into a donation business?  Meaning I cook/deliver food to people who want it, don't charge them anything and allow them to set the value of the food themselves and donate.  Does that submit me to having to go through the government crap?

Granted, it's not a very good business model, but would a donation type operation fly under the radar even with disclosing location via facespace/twitter/cell phone?  You're not demanding customers give you money, just asking, and it's up to the customer how much they think the service/food is worth.  I dunno.  I was thinking about starting a computer consulting/repair service.  Obviously the customer would pay for the parts, but nothing over cost unless they were to donate.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound condescending.  :)

I think I found it by searching for "US intervention Middle East" and it was the first result.

Wouldn't you get the same type of effect with tinted glasses?

General / Re: Where are you going to hide the Muslim?
« on: September 08, 2010, 12:09:40 AM »
Everyone in my family is pretty anti-muslim, I wouldn't be able to convince my family to do so. It's strange, the strong atheist (me) is often left defending muslims, mormon polygamists and creationism in the classrooms.

Same here.  I love my extended family, but the implied racism with some of them is just too much to stand.

Don't forget a spot for the mexicans too.  It's getting a little out of control

I need to catch up on this show.  I got into it the first season and then kinda lost track.  I don't watch tv anymore.

Clearly, this was not an accident.    Think of the jobs it will create just for cleanup!

General / Re: Momma Ally's Beat-Down
« on: September 07, 2010, 02:58:28 AM »
I listened to George Donnelley's call on the 9/3 show, then the same day heard Momma Ally's call on 9/4.  Geezus fucking christ.  Seriously, this needs to fucking end.  Then I read about the deaf dude in Seattle who got shot 4 times by a cop for whittling with a knife.

I agree, in the 50's or 60's a violent uprising might have been possible.  It's not now.  There's too many of them and they have far bigger weapons.

Inside the system activism isn't going to work.

Civil disobedience on a large enough scale might work, but not when it's only a handful of people.

I think it's time to think out of the box.  Withdraw from the system.  Stop paying taxes.  The only way to stop this is to stop funding these fools.  But, again, unless you have a ton of people doing this, it does no good.

I think this is where the FSP comes in.  I'm not foolish enough to think that the FSP is going to change anything by itself, and I don't think inside the system stuff does any good.  I think if you get a large enough group together that the lamestream media starts to take notice, average people will start to notice and see what can be done to stop this crap.

What other solution is there besides go back into a slumber and be oblivious?  I can't unlearn what I know now.  Violence solves nothing in this case, even if it is justified self-defense.  Had Momma Ally enacted self-defense that day, she wouldn't be here to talk about it.  She'd be painted as a lunatic.  This is why moving to NH temporarily, even if only for a few years, is the only solution.  Get a ton of people there, everyone stops paying taxes and generally grinds the system to a halt, the MSM picks up on it and plants a seed in peoples' minds and then it grows.

Just look at what the "Tea Parties" and Glenn Beck have done.  Granted, the ideas are pretty fucked up and flawed, but look at the outrage people have in the last year or two!  I think this is something we can win and can dismantle this system, but violence isn't the answer here.

Obnoxious thread-killing debate scrubbed, and thread bumped. Now we can resume this discussion.

Again, I think plugins are the best idea - it's a set it and forget it sort of thing... however - I like the hosts file idea....

Although, if you made hosts point amazon.com to amazon.freetalklive.com which points BACK to amazon.com - wouldn't that make some kind of endless loop?

I'm pretty sure the HOSTS file bypasses DNS, so I don't think it would loop.  But then again, that's a pain in the ass and not user-friendly either.  Not to mention, the HOSTS file is used more for blocking sites than anything else.

I think the plugin would be easier.  Get a demographic of what browsers people use the most to come here and then design a plugin for that browser and then maybe the 2nd most popular browser.

I'd love to see it not be just the affiliate links, but also include the fancy javascript bookmarklet that allows people to submit stuff to FTL easier.  Maybe even add a section of links to advertisers.

I hate toolbars, but maybe doing something with startpage (are they even an advertiser anymore?) to get a custom toolbar. Just please, don't use stuff from the likes of Conduit or anything like that.  Toolbars are notorious for having spyware, which is why a simple plugin with an icon and a drop down menu from the icon would be better IMHO.
