Obvious Halloween costume is obvious:

Freakin sweet.

Also, I think I am slightly more addicted to this game than I am with WoW. I even have a damn Android app!  The dev just needs to allow day/night timer to run in the background now.

Alll of a sudden I hear creepers.  WTF...I'm too far underground.

No, you're not. They spawn down there, in the caves, along with zombies, spiders, and blobs.

Remember, monsters fear the light and thrive in the darkness...  *HINT*

/facepalm

I be a dumbass

Anyways. Found some interesting stuff.

Yes, the flying white things there are the Ghasts. They shoot fireballs at you, and according to Notch, ‘When there are this many Ghasts, you don’t survive for long‘. Specially considering that that red-ish block there burns forever. Yup. Lots of Ghasts throwing fireballs on you and rock that burns forever. That makes sense. It’ll be great to be trapped by lots of flying, crying creatures in a hell-ish dimension full of lava waterfalls. Yes, seriously, it’ll be amazing.

You see that obsidian doorway there? That’s a portal. To make one, make a frame out of obsidian, and set fire to the space inside it. Walk in, you’re in Hell (Notch might rename it; a wise decision, since some people might think it’s somehow related to religion and that wouldn’t be good for his bussiness). If you want to get back to the normal world, you’ll have to make another portal – and there’s the catch. Place the portal just a bit away from the entrance one, and bam, you’re really far. In PCGamer’s Tom Francis’ words, ‘Make one 10 meters away, and you’ll find yourself 160 meters ahead in the real world when you get back‘.

He also tells us that there will be six new blocks – five will have new functions. Also coming with the Halloween update are the biomes, one of the features fans have requested the most. Deserts, forests, snowy mountains. Looks like Minecraft’s already gorgeous landscapes will be even better.

I also found this, some really interesting ideas here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=14998

Those guys who are green and get you in the sunlight are called "creepers" and they're scary as hell when you're working and all of a sudden you get blown up by one that snuck up on you. Sssssssssssssssssss...BOOM! I build all my buildings with them specifically in mind.

So, i did some exploring.  Dug a hole in the ground, used ladders instead of trying to create stairs to get down.  This seems to work out good.  So, I'm building my lair, multi-leveled, just in case the creepers do manage to survive the fall down the hole.  So I'm digging away, spending "days and nights" toiling away at making a walkway to a more central area.  I decide to use the ladder hole approach thing to go deeper, next thing I know I'm in this huge fucking cavern.  I blocked the water flowing in, found lots of coal and iron.  I was happier than a pig in shit toiling away at getting that space setup.

Alll of a sudden I hear creepers.  WTF...I'm too far underground.  I turn around and theres about 5 creepers running towards me.  That didn't end well.  They must have fallen through another hole or something and I gave up on it.  I copied the save file before I dug the second ladder hole, so i might attempt again, but this time making a room to block off the creepers in that cavern.

This game is fucking epic.  Seriously, this is one time when graphics don't mean shit.  Stupid, mindless game with no story and it's more of an addiction than WoW has been.

Games I'm enjoying for XBox 360 that aren't first-person shooters-- Red Dead Redemption, Civilization Revolution, DeathSpank, Puzzle Quest 2, Super Street Fighter IV (I suck at it, but it's hilarious) and probably soon Fable 3.  I have Burnout Paradise because I liked Burnout 3 for the Xbox so much before, but haven't tried it yet.

Fallout New Vegas came today.  It's technically an RPG but it's way too FPS-ish to me so I'm not really interested in playing it.

If Burnout Paradise is anything like it is on the PS3, it's awesome.  But the map is friggin huge.  I gave up on it it was so big.  It didn't help that when I had the PS3 I bought it on the PSN and downloaded that and all the extra content that basically unlocked all teh cars.  Kinda took the challenge out of the game.  The soundtrack is awesome though.  That might be the one game i miss not having.

Sounds like a decent trade to me.

The bike has little to no appeal to me, but for some reason people think they are worth tons of money.

It's the name, and to some extent the sound.  Honda's and shit can't get the exact sound, but they're getting better.  Only thing that sounds better is a custom.  Both will put a dent in the wallet too.

Seriously though, Minecraft looks interesting, I just haven't been able to do much other than pick up flowers and throw them.  And get stuck in ditches. With no way out.  And watch it get dark.  And then quit the game and restart only to do the same exact fucking thing.

Thanks!  I also found some stuff on the forums.  Holy fuck this shit is addicting as hell.

Also, aren't zombies supposed to burn up during the day?  I have a few roaming around, blowing me up and a couple got in my cave and fucked all my shit up. I finally got him dead using a torch.  Now I need to rebuild all the fucking tools i had because when the fucker killed me the first time he blasted my chest, forge, and crafting table.  At least my wooden door is in tact! :P

Best thing I did was put torches all around the area on the outside on higher ground where my cave is.  I might try the lighthouse idea.  The dude who is making this game is seriously undercharging.  No, the graphics are not amazing, but think of it as digital legos.

I've been going crazy on Minecraft. Apparently if you explore an entire world, it would equal 1.5 earths. I used a program (Cartographer) to map out the little section that I explored. Its probably less than a mile.

I must be doing it wrong...I can't get past much.  Worst money I've ever spent.  Oh...wait....I took out student loans just so I could quit college 5 times.

That's what piracy is for.

Both the PS3 and the 360 are hackable. Don't like the FPS games? Install a PC Engine emulator and play some freaking shmups.

Id be willing to pay for them if they would just make them for PS3. Just amazes me that they dont. If I had any kind of programming ability to do that, Id jump on it in a second. Big moneymaker for a small startup that specialized in that type of thing. Nice niche market. I remember the atari 2600 system had something like 40 or 50 different game companies that made games for systems back then.  Now its like 5 or 6 main ones and nothing else.

If you want to buy stuff if you have a PS3 there are lots of games on PSN that you can pay for that are basically just PS1 games in download form.

Nah, Id just like to see more disc based high quality, non-first person shooter games available that actually utilize the the hardware of the ps3. Guess game developers are just lazier nowadays.

That and game developers are finding downloadable games are more profitable.  The next generation console won't have discs, it'll just be all downloaded crap.  Hookup a high-end gaming pc to your TV and you can have a boatload more games than on a console.  I honestly can't understand how consoles are still selling.  When I had my PS3 I was not impressed.  I found some games had a lot of glitches *glares at Red Dead Redemption* and most game developers seem to just rush to get a release out and patch it later.  Also, there's a LOT of game developers who are looking to kill the used-games market once and for all.  Of course, then it'll be the piracy thing.

I'll stick to WoW.  If I want questing and shit, I quest, if I want PvP, i PvP.  If I want a mindless game, I load up the bejeweled addon that can be installed :P

I can barely write any more, after using computers for so many years. And when I do, I have to write in all capital letters to be legible.

Same here.  Hell I can't even sign my name legible, never have been able to.  Doctors have better signatures than I do.

No, they are being set up and tested and forced to questioning themselves and each other. I don't know why the statists want the libertarians to be off balance here lately, maybe its the vote coming up I don't know.

Agreed, however I think this was a move to see if things would turn violent.  I think someone got their facts wrong and now it's making everyone look like crap.  This is the worst thing that could have happened to the "liberty" community as a whole, because a lot of people got potentially suckered into this and it's turning out that all parties involved are better left not getting any attention.

Quite honestly, I think this was setup intentionally.  I don't advocate what the state did, but I can't say that I can stand behind the allegations of the parents in this case.  Yes, it's a crappy situation because it makes me look like I advocate state violence, but I don't.  I'd rather this event not even happen the way it did.  Everything that has happened so far makes it look like a "false flag" type of thing, but we'll never know until we get the true story.  Unfortunately, due to the parties involved, I'm not sure we'll ever get the true story.

Kudos to Ridley for trying to get all sides of this and be as unbiased as possible and try to get the true story.

General / Re: verizon phone - motorola droid 2 or htc incredible
« on: October 14, 2010, 07:41:02 AM »
I started on the very first Android phone, the G1.  That had the hard keyboard and I didn't think I could use a phone without the hardware keybaord again.  I've had two Android phones since then and the one I had (Samsung Moment) was junk and the hardware keyboard was better.  The one I have now, the original Motorola Droid, I barely ever use the hardware keyboard.  The Android soft keyboard has gotten so much better and really is faster to use in most instances.  However, the Motorola Droid hardware keyboard is more of a pain to use because the keys are barely raised. The Droid 2 has a much better hardware keyboard, but it's hard to say if I would use it more now that Android 2.2 has a much better software keyboard.

I am biased towards the Droid 2 because some of the stuff I have seen from HTC has been absolutely junk for Android phones in general.  The Motorola Droid is an amazing phone, it's heavy, but it's sturdy as hell.  Motorola seems to have a much better grasp on Android than HTC does for the most part.  I can't remember if the Motorola Droid 2 has MotoBlur, but I'm pretty sure the Incredible has HTC SenseUI, which many people dislike.

My advice, don't pay attention to the hardware keyboard, look at both devices and compare specs.  I think the Droid 2 is a better phone because it's newer too.  Also, there's going to be an onslaught of new Android devices coming soon, some supporting 4g (LTE), and most with dual core processors.  If you can wait another 4-6 months, I would.  If not, grab the Droid 2.
