General / Drunk 4 year old thieving cross-dresser
« on: December 18, 2009, 10:29:10 PM »
Hayden Wright, a 4-year-old boy from Tennessee, is accused of stealing Christmas presents from his neighbors after consuming a beer. He was found at 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday, wandering the streets wearing a dress he took from under a neighbor's tree.

Hayden's mother, April Wright, is going through a divorce from Hayden's father, who is in jail, and she thinks he may have been looking for his dad. "He runs away trying to find his father," said 21-year-old April. "He wants to get in trouble so he can go to jail because that's where his daddy is."

The Show / Tim Doctor Interview -- Edgington Post --11-25-09
« on: November 28, 2009, 10:36:45 AM »
Tim Doctor, ASS clown extraordinaire!  Did any of you'll listen to the Edgington Post interview after the 11-25 show?  This guy probably thought he was going to have a grand ole' time yucking it up with his fellow talk show host about "politically correct topics such as TERRORISM".  The douche was in for a surprise, Mark never let up on his weak logic and semantic re-assignment games.  I was proud to be a FTL listener in those moments.  Good job Mark.

General / ATTN: Computer Geeks

I was wondering why there is not a Iphone app that could intergrate with a current restaurants POINT OF SALE program like MICROS, so that waiters could use their Iphones to access their restaurants POS at the table?  Could a generic app be made to tap into the POS network and customized to their specific menu?

Anyone here have any Cisco certifications?  I'm thinking about studying or become a CCNET, then possibly a CCNA.  It seems to be a good career path?  I'm looking for anyones opinion that might be currently certified or employed in the IT profession.  What do you think?  Is it a good idea?

The Show / Mark and his G. Montgomery Burns..."Excccceeeelent!"
« on: November 01, 2009, 01:20:16 AM »
Did anyone else notice that in the Thursday show Mark repeatedly says "excellent" just like G. Montgomery Burns?    Every time he said it, I pictured him rubbing his finger tips together plotting something "derelict"

General / HELP!! I need Market Solutions to discussion over Child Support
« on: September 11, 2009, 01:44:59 AM »
I have a co-worker who was talking today about how his step-children's' father was going to go to jail if he didn't pay his back child support.  I agreed with him that morally the true father should be financially helping to support his children, yet I disagreed that the belief that the state putting him in a cage would bring any positive change he would want.  He said it would work wonderfully as the true father was scared to go to jail and would promptly get to work and pay up.
To me, a man in a cage can't earn money to pay support, plus it's immoral to bully someone with threat of violence for not being a good dad.
Not to mention my co-workers wife consistently chose not to ostracize the true father but rather she enabled him by paying the deadbeats child support so that he was not thrown in jail for failure to pay.
SOOOOO the question is, does this man have an obligation to pay?  I think he probably does, but this point might be debatable.  Absent draconian measures, and given the system we currently have, what other options are there?

As a side note, when I was questioning whether or not there was an obligation to pay my co-worker said, "once you have a kid, you are obligated to financially pay for him."  I responded to this claim by pointing out that when he himself had his own two children he relied on medicare and WIC to pay for their birth and their health-care and their nutrition until possibly they turn age 18.  Why the disconnect for him not paying for the birth and well being of his own children?  Why should he claim the deadbeat has moral obligation to pay for his kids yet he himself uses extorted money to subsidize his child bearing to the detriment of society.  I could see some gears turning and cognitive dissonance  taking place but he didn't seem bothered and I had NO REAL MARKET SOLUTIONS for this situation.  Please help.
Thanks

The Show / Acid Trips and Splitting Birds
« on: August 26, 2009, 01:54:57 PM »
I've ate plenty of acid and mushrooms in college.  I had what I thought were deep insights.  So I started to write them down.  When I came back from my trip I read them.  They were insightful but not mind blowing.  Birds sure as fuck didn't split split into three separate organisms.

Ian's statement that objectivism's tenants are a leap of faith; what do you think?  Can you smart kids discuss this so that I can wrap my head around the different opinions on the matter.

General / MLM - pyramid schemes - ACN- QUIXTAR - Multi Level Marketing
« on: March 17, 2009, 01:08:10 AM »
My friend is getting (got) sucked in to a multi-level marketing scheme like AmWay or Quixtar.  Specifically it was ACN, some bullshit company that does VOIP (voice over IP) and video telephone calls.  I don't know how to break it to him he's been scammed.

Does anyone have any funny experiences having to deal with friends or family pushing shitty products on you that you don't want?
Does anyone have any horrible experiences with people they know doing this?

I feel obligated to let him know he's been scammed but I'd rather wait and let him find out for himself.  That is as long as he doesn't get too pushy trying to sell me a "George Jetson" state of the art video phone...then i'll have to serve up a nasty dose of realism.
