never heard of gatto. from the little bit i read i don't see anything inaccurate or absurd in what he's said.

hopefully his background will give some credibility to the subject. thankfully he hasn't used the canard that it's a state conspiracy to keep your children dumb by keeping them in public schools. that sort of thing really discredits the real problem i think we have.

the emotional development in public schools seem to be completely retarded though (not in the pejorative sense.)
a really good documentary that illustrates this point is called "Children Full of Life." these japanese kids are probably more emotionally mature in fourth grade than i am now. definitely check it out:

reminds me of a story i saw on fox years ago about an average joe that saved a million dollars.
when asked how he did it he said that he ate a lot of ramen noodles.
never heard anything else about him.
must have had a stroke or something from all the sodium.

LRN.FM - The Liberty Radio Network / Re: LRN / FTL Web Chat
« on: June 08, 2012, 01:16:23 AM »
for sure. that may be the most cost effective way.
i'd really like to see it be free of registration at some point though.
that strikes me as important.

LRN.FM - The Liberty Radio Network / LRN / FTL Web Chat
« on: June 06, 2012, 10:18:10 PM »
So I found out about Ron Paul Tribune the other day due to the Daily Paul.
They have a free web chat. No Registration.
Mods run a tight ship so the ridiculous, overbearing or rude don't last long
and the conversation runs well even with 8 or 9 people with cam feed.
There is also a text chat directly below and a little whiteboard that anyone in the
chat can draw on.

I have really been enjoying this and I thought it would be a great thing to see at LRN / FTL.
I'd even AMP just to use it because I love the idea of having a place to hang out with
liberty minded folks without leaving my home or dealing with boards.

Any thoughts? Problems? Would you take advantage of something like this?

not asking for you to predict the future. but from your worldview, has humanity progressed significantly enough to warrant optimism for the future?

What's going on with the merch section?
Has FTL ever had merch?
Anyone know how long till that part of the site is up?
Should I be holding my breath?

I'm just tired of juvenile stunts, FK-style. I'm tired of the FSP being associated with a kooky group like FK. I'm tired of vapid phrases like "hurting peaceful people" and "nonviolent evolution". I'm tired of being told that "FTL is not FK is not FSP".

When I joined the FSP and moved to NH, it was about connecting with civil society and your new neighbors in NH. Not about sealing oneself off in a libertarian enclave. The people who joined the FSP and got active in the real native community are the ones making real, positive strides for liberty in our lifetimes. The people who think smoking dope in a drum circle on central square is "activism" are just deluding themselves, and via Ian, FTL is enabling that unhelpful mindset.

:?:I don't understand how anyone can misrepresent the FSP since it doesn't endorse anything other than bringing liberty minded activists to nh. :?:

Mission Statement:

"The Free State Project is an agreement among 20,000 pro-liberty activists to move to New Hampshire.."

"The success of the Project would likely entail reductions in taxation and regulation, reforms at all levels of government, to expand individual rights and free markets, and a restoration of constitutional federalism, demonstrating the benefits of liberty to the rest of the nation and the world."

If FSP doesn't endorse any particular issue or type of activism, why would what some people do bother you? I understand some things could be counterproductive, but I don't get what seems to be the idea of the post.. i.e. to throw in the towel because you dislike or disagree with particular forms of activism.

Wouldn't it be more productive to try and steer or create the kind of activism you find responsible?

I feel like something this dramatic should be accompanied by more explanation.
What am I missing here?

"The drug dealer, as a peddler in harmful chemicals, becomes a "partner" in the self-aggression and violates the NAP."

You seem to be missing a pretty elemental aspect of the philosophy of liberty.. that you are 100% responsible for your actions. You cannot share or transfer responsibility. Therefore you cannot be responsible for anyone else's actions. I think Sartre (not libertarian but an french philosopher) did the best work on this topic in "Essays in Existentialism" which I definitely suggest you pick up because it deals in depth with the logic of responsibility and seems to be right in line with the ideals of liberty.

A drug dealer isn't responsible for the outcomes of a drug users chemical abuses any more than the guy that sold me the burger at McDonald's is responsible for the heart attack I'm likely to incur.

"Yes it is my place, here's why."

This is unsettling.

If I intentionally drink undiluted bleach I am committing a form of aggression against myself.

Suicide isn't aggression.. unless you have multiple personalities in which one wants to commit suicide and the other doesn't and the both magically control one side of your body and there is a struggle to get to a gun. Maybe then. Maybe.

The slop is in your misuse of the term.

Aggression is "Hostile or violent behavior or attitudes toward another; readiness to attack or confront."

I could easily off myself without being hostile.
It could possibly be an "attack" but if you're consenting to your own actions.. who's the aggressor?
Still, it has to be "toward another."

You're free. That means free to fuck up as well as to succeed. You have to suffer or enjoy the consequences of your actions. You can't cry fowl and try to penalize others when your actions lead to bad outcomes and you shouldn't try to engineer society to conform to what you arbitrarily define 'harm' to be.
