The Polling Pit / Let's play soothsayer...
« on: June 04, 2008, 12:29:37 AM »
Gas just hit $4/gallon in my town. It seems to go up and up, but sometimes just for fun it drops a bit from time to time. Some analysts think we're experiencing an artificial high due to speculators driving up futures markets. Others suggest that world-wide demand is driving the price ever higher.
Where do you think gas will be next year?

Personally, I don't see that it's worked any magic.

General / Now Libertarians have an unprecedented chance to BUY a country.

Sealand has just gone up for sale.

It would be possible for a large group of libertarians to buy this, the world's smallest independent nation, and build a small number of time-share condos on it. Residents can rotate through, spending a couple weeks a year living in freedom. Sort of like "Galt's Gulch" in Atlas Shrugged. Members would have dual citizenship.
This could serve as a model in order to establish that the principles of liberty will work in the real world.

The Polling Pit / Withholding Tax

As it now stands, the true amount people pay is invisible to them, since it is taken from their check before they even see it. I think that if workers actually had to cough up the full amount every April, they would revolt against having to pay so much. What do you think?

General / What the world needs is a Spanish language libertarian podcast.
« on: March 11, 2006, 07:48:47 PM »
With a mind to improving my poor Spanish skills, I listen to several Spanish podcasts. There are a number of socialist-oriented programs, but I know that there are many people in Latin America interested in libertarianism. My Spanish isn't nearly good enough (and I certainly don't have any sort of voice for radio). However, this could be a niche market for someone conversant in the language.
I know Manwich as said he speaks the language, but I'm not sure Costa Rica is ready for Manwich-ism.
