General / 2010 Census Job Question
« on: December 19, 2009, 01:13:24 AM »
I have been looking for an alternative way to make money and a friend suggested I apply for a temporary Census Job.  We need the money but I am conflicted because I am kind of against the government acquiring so much information on private individuals.

I am scheduled for the test today.  I am cringing at filling out my information on the application and I don't even want to take the census myself.  I feeling bad because this job might be going against my principles concerning privacy.  I quit a job with the prison system years ago because of war on drugs and the stupidity of putting people in prison for marijuana.

Is this selling out or just a job get over it?

Knox upset, tired; gets family visit in prison

PERUGIA, Italy – Amanda Knox sought comfort from visiting family members Saturday on her first day in prison since being convicted of murdering her British roommate.

The family of victim Meredith Kercher said the verdict brought a measure of justice. However, they said, it was not a time to celebrate.

Knox, a college student from Seattle, was tired and upset following the midnight verdict and sentence of 26 years in prison, according to family members and a lawyer who saw her.

Now the person who was last seen with the murder victim has already been convicted of the crime and received 30 years Rudy Hermann Guede.  Knox and her Italian boyfriend said they were elsewhere when the murder happened and that the room mate was alive when they left her with Rudy Hermann Guede.  They both have testified they had nothing to do with the murder.

I do have one question about the article it says the victims parents and siblings are being awarded money.  But they don't make it clear as to whom is giving them this money.  Does Europe have some sort of victims compensation fund?  Because they go on to say that the family is civilly suing Knox and her boyfriend for even more money.

I also find it odd that many of the American reports of this case are about the messed up state of the Italian justice system.   As compared to the American Justice system.  Did I miss something or aren't innocent people convicted in America as well?

General / Bye Bye Cable.
« on: December 02, 2009, 08:21:26 PM »
In my ever increasing efforts to cut household costs I have killed cable.  No more expensive fees to watch tv commercials.  We can no longer afford to keep Ted Turner in the lifestyle to which he has become accustomed.

Now using Clear Wire and free to air digital tv.  When it works it is great and we are saving $75.00 a month.  Time Warner was the last subscription bill left to cut.

Anyone else cutting back on stuff significantly?

General / The big what if a major disaster hits the earth?
« on: November 15, 2009, 06:22:10 AM »
I have seen several programs on various ways the earth could experience a massive extinction event.
Nuclear accident, Solar flair, pole shift, lost of ozone layer, Mega Volcano (yellow stone), or asteroid.
Lets say you survive the initial event.  What next?

If you are one of those who is making plans now for the current end of the world prediction of 2012.  What are you doing?  Even if you aren't and just want to pick apart the plans of others it might be interesting to see some of the plans.

I watched one of those 2012 shows and one person was saying people needed to get to locations above 6000 ft in elevation.   Another guy was purchasing a surplus silo to setup what I would assume is a bio dome.  I don't think a silo bio dome would work and even if it did there wouldn't be enough human life left to repopulate the planet.  But I haven't looked into what numbers of humans who would have to survive to reproduce so that the human race would continue.  And given my lack of concern for planning why would I care if the human race goes extinct.  If the planet goes that pear shaped why would anyone want to live on it might be the time to check on out.

Then there was this series of what would happen to the planet if people disappeared.  I think it was called, "Life without Humans."  It showed just how quickly the signs of our civilization would disappear if people simply disappeared one day.   Not very comforting but I think viewers might have placed themselves inside of that world what would they do.  Another interesting look at this whole dooms day sort of scifi stuff a reality show, "The colony."  I never actually watched it but people were placed in a survival situation as though they lived through the initial event and were struggling to survive in the aftermath.

General / What is the cheapest ISP possible
« on: October 28, 2009, 08:03:42 AM »
DSL is a no go and yes I was shocked I was just outside of the service area.

Clearwire and Time Warner seem to be the only options around here other than dial up.  And dial up costs the same if you consider you have to get home phone service.

I was kind of looking into wifi hotspot and gain  there use to be a wifi service which networked several hotels together and you could pay to participate if you lived within the grid but that seems to have discontinued.  Or they have changed the name.

I wonder if neighbors could share a wifi network when one gets cable?

Everyone is hurting financially more so that usual.  So if any of you clever people can think of a way to cut costs let me know.

BTW I live in the woods and don't have a clear shot at a satellite so that is out.

General / Has anyone tried Acupuncture? How was it?
« on: October 14, 2009, 08:46:16 PM »
Just wondering if people who have had acupuncture could tell if it worked.  And if so do you think it was placibo effect or felt real improvement.  If it isn't too personal what did you seek acupuncture treatment for?

General / OK who broke the WEB BOT program
« on: September 24, 2009, 04:46:21 AM »
It was doing so well with it's 80% accuracy rate but now it is completely missing the mark with it's predictions.
Wonder if it was just a fiction all a long and this stock market trend tracking program never did actually make any accurate predictions?   :(  The modern day oracle has lost it's ability it seems.  Cause seriously there was no mass up tick in UFO sighting during the Summer months of 2009.

General / The CDC, FDA and AMA always right, Marijuana anyone?
« on: September 24, 2009, 03:52:10 AM »
There is the fervent belief among some that the CDC, FDA, AMA or IOM can do no wrong because their organizations are just too large that people in those organizations won't let falsehoods stand.

Where are the studies on medical marijuana?   Oh yes there are plenty of CDC studies on the harmful effects of Marijuana.  Which may be true but they see no medical benefit to Marijuana?  Actual they take the cowards way out and simply don't comment.   How about the AMA that agency originally attempted to fight against making marijuana illegal.  But after the arrest of nearly 3000 doctors who continued to use marijuana based drugs the AMA reversed it's objections and agreed there was no medical use for marijuana.  It wasn't until March 18, 1997 that the AMA once again requested that further study be conducted on the medical applications of marijuana.  So for 50 years the AMA towed the government line that there were no medical uses for marijuana.  Did the government control all the doctors opinions or just the AMA's opinion.  Should you bother to notice that government refuses to fund any studies which may show beneficial applications of marijuana.

You will have to investigate for yourself the many reasons why marijuana was made illegal.  There is very good circumstantial evidence that timber and makers of artificial fibers had a vested interest in making marijuana illegal.  That they politicized the issue to do so.  Where were the good congressmen, doctors, and other officials who wouldn't let lies about marijuana stand because all of those institutions are so large it couldn't possibly have happened that marijuana was made illegal?  But here we are 60 years plus after the fact with thousands of peaceful marijuana users in prison and cancer patients suffering needlessly.

The CDC has an entire section on the harmful effects of drinking ethyl-alcohol during pregnancy but nothing on the effects of mercury in vaccines being harmful or safe to a developing fetus.  http://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/fasd/index.html  It says there is no safe level of alcohol ingestion during pregnancy.  But we are suppose to believe even in the conspicuous absences of any studies that injecting mercury into pregnant women is harmless to the developing fetus?   The CDC's only advice to pregnant women concerning mercury is to avoid eating some fish.  But no information on how to minimize other forms of mercury exposure that add to the toxic burden which could harm a fetus.  And positively no hint that vaccination is one of those forms of exposure which can be avoided because there are non-mercury versions of vaccines available.

Well I finally found copies of leaked original study of the autism thermisol connection and the Simpsonwood Conference transcripts.  This study was yanked from the CDC in order to dodge court ordered Freedom on Information Act inquiries.  It is the study which alarmed CDC officials at the Simpsonwood Conference a few months later.  So much so that one remarked they didn't want their own family members to get thermisol laden vaccines.  These same officials spent most of their time at the Simpsonwood discussing ways in which to reworking the data to diminish the results so as to not undermine the public's confidence in the CDC's vaccination program.  The transcript for that meeting is also on this linked website. http://www.autismactioncoalition.org/science.html

So, yes there are whisleblowers in the CDC obviously they leaked these documents.   There goes the argument that everyone has to be on it or else we would know.

Back to marijuana how many times have marijuana users who state that marijuana has medical benefits been shot down as not having the science to back up their claims.  That their claims of the safety of marijuana is just anecdotal and not valid.  And when they point to doctors who back up their claims they are told those doctors are quacks and operating outside of traditional scientific medicine.   How about the dismissal of scientific research into how marijuana shrinks some cancer tumors.  I remember telling someone about a Spanish medical study on marijuana being able to shrink some cancer tumors.  Their response it was in Spain so therefore invalid.  If it was true then the FDA or the Surgeon General would have done such a study.   That there would be journal publication on the subject peer reviewed in a respected medical journal.  They wouldn't hear that the Spanish study was peer reviewed.  And would look to official USA government sights that refuted the scientist in Spain.

So you ask yourself why would someone believe that the CDC on any politicized medical issue?

General / Lilly White New England Culture Shock
« on: September 20, 2009, 08:46:12 PM »
I can only image what the culture shock must be like to move from a location which is 35% minority to a place that is only 2% minority.  So I kind of get what Ian is saying.  Also I have lived in vastly different cultures and have missed various aspects of my home.  And I see living in a racially diverse area as just one aspect of my native culture that I would miss.  I currently have a racially diverse set of friends and live in a racially diverse neighborhood.

It reminds me of a funny thing that happened while I was at the train station in Amsterdam.  There was a group of black individuals and I automatically assumed by their dress they were American tourist so I said hi.  None of them spoke English it is one of those had to have been there sort of stories.

One third of doctors do not want swine flu vaccination

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/swine-flu/6084234/One-third-of-doctors-do-not-want-swine-flu-vaccination.html

The survey, carried out by Healthcare Republic for GP newspaper, found that almost three in 10 GPs said they would not have the swine flu vaccine, with the same number, 29 per cent, unsure whether they would or not.

Out of the 216 GPs polled, more than seven in 10 said they were concerned there had not been sufficient trials.
[/size]

Maybe the real story is that there is an epidemic of Doctors placing themselves in thousands of dollars of dept for their educations and risking their career reputations to only be infected with the vaccine quackery virus?  Not to worry fine people, vaccine manufactures are hard at work to stop this epidemic of MDs being infected with this quackery bug which leads to the vaccine charlatan flu.  Because we all know if you don't have complete and utter blind faith in all vaccines you must be infected with quackery.  It seems the old treatments of fear and professional threats aren't as effective at combating the vaccine quackery virus.  Just to make sure you in the public aren't harmed by any future outbreaks of quackery in the Medical and Scientific community big pharma lobbyist are bribing persuading lawmakers to make our new anti-quackery vaccine mandatory for medical school and many scientific degree graduations.  (disclaimer:  Anti-quackery vaccine in initial trials has resulted in 1% deaths and 1% brain damage.  It has also proven ineffective against all other forms of quackery so the public is instructed to remain skeptical just not skeptical of vaccine safety and effectiveness.)

Show of hands how many of you did not know that flu vaccines do not run through animal testing to see if they are safe and effective before being given to people?  And that in fact people are the first test group that receive any new flu vaccine?  How many know that vaccines for animals go through more rigorous testing and trials prior to market than most vaccines intended for human consumption?   Please don't let these facts concern you because to do so might mean you too have been infected with the vaccine quackery virus.  Be on the watch for the vaccine charlatan flu and please report any suspected cases of this flu to your local health authorities.  Sadly any medical or scientific researchers infected with the vaccine quackery virus can not be treated so their licenses and credentials must be revoked and if they insist on continuing to practice medicine or conduct scientific research into vaccines they will be fined and jailed.

General / How do you enforce Anarchy?
« on: July 21, 2009, 04:00:46 PM »
It seems to me anarchy can't survive under a natural democratic system.  People will join together and use the power of their numbers to impose a kind of government on others.  So how do you stop that from happening?

Do you only let in members to a territory who swear an oath to maintain it as an anarchist territory?  What if they won't swear to the anarchist oath, are you going to bar their entry?   How can you bar their entry and still have open borders?

If people attempt to form a gang do you deport them?  Who deports them if you have no government?

General / Husband Laughs at move to NH suggestion
« on: June 14, 2009, 09:05:52 AM »
I keep bringing up the suggestion to move to NH.  He says it is all talk.  Why cause I hate the cold.  I have lived in cold climates before but as I get older.   I get more irritated at cold weather.  I recall that the cold was almost a deal breaker for Mark.  And I am terrified of driving in snow and ice.

Then he brings up the lack of jobs in NH.  He has a job here.  I have said if he gets laid off we should make the move.  Those seem to be our two biggest issues.  I am drawn more to Grafton as a possible place to land.  But it is really dependent on several factors like the location of a job or one.

General / UK Jewish MP: Israel acting like Nazis in Gaza
« on: May 20, 2009, 09:41:17 AM »
If even a Jewish MP is pointing out that the current Israeli Government is acting like Nazis why are people still apologizing for the murderous actions of Israel in the West Bank and Gaza?

He lost family members during WWII who were murdered simply for being Jewish.  Friends with several of the Leaders of Israel.

I suppose the Israeli apologist are going to say the man is paid off or suffering from old age or some other lame excuse.
