General / Re: Anyone else reading "The Game of Thrones"?

Crap. Thanks to this thread, I downloaded book 1 to my iPad from the big family library in the cloud.
I'll be re-reading the whole thing over the next 5-6 weeks. Damn you, cavalier973!

Doing what I can to increase the level of human misery in the world.

12 hours into Game of Thrones... only 100-130 more to get through the whole series.
Woohoo?

Also, my husband started reading Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, and keeps talking to me about it, though it's been almost 2 decades since I read the first book. Just finished Eye of the World, and am starting book 2, The Great Hunt, tonight. There's 13-14 books in the series... Dammit.

My stack of zombie, Sam Harris, and Richard Dawkins books will just have to collect dust for a while.

Evolution is everywhere.

This was the point of the original post?

I've read all but Dances With Dragons twice. Will read the whole series again when the next book comes out... which might be 5-6 years from now, if the George RR Martin takes as long as he did for the last one.

Tyrion is my favorite character through the first five books, along with Arya Stark, but there are a few characters I started to find quite interesting - don't worry, no spoilers - heading into book six. Given the number of characters I got attached to over the first books though, I'm going to have to assume this means they'll die in book seven.

Never trust a woman.

Never trust a womanly man.

Never trust a manly woman.

Will add these to the list, right after...

Never trust a man. They're all assholes, just to varying degrees.

Tabu? Must be an offshoot of one of them Polynesian religions, because here in 'Murica, it's "taboo".

Seriously though, I'm not sure what argument you are trying to make with your four main points.
Without a main idea, stated more clearly than "from the beginning...", your points and quotations seem a bit disconnected.

No.

Free speech should be discussed. It's also good to discuss the rights of a property owner, whether real or virtual, to remove individuals who are behaving in a manner against published guidelines, or in a manner chasing off other customers.

It would be foolish to let people who deliberately and repeatedly break the very loose rules on the FTL board take that same behavior onto the air, chasing off other listeners.

I'm still watching, though I'm not as excited about it now that we kinda know why the power went off. Now I just really, REALLY want them to get to the big battle, but they probably won't get around to that until the spring half of the season starts.

Last January, my two debit cards and two credit cards were all cloned and used to purchase a couple thousand dollars of gas and auto parts, plus a lot of general "stuff" at a department store. Happened over two days, and it wasn't my bank that figured it out - American Express called me.

Got my money back in 48 hours, but spent months dealing with forms, credit bureaus, reports... and am now dealing with a collection agency about a store card accessed using one of the cloned credit cards as an ID. Put fraud alerts on everything. Instead of just getting new card numbers, I had the accounts changed. The store account was closed.

I went through 6 months of 2011 records to figure out where I had used all four cards, and only found one merchant in common. I now use cash when I have to shop there. If the skimmer was there, it's long gone, so it's silly, but it makes me feel better. Well, that, and checking into my activity on all accounts at least once a week. Was every other day for the longest time after the theft.

That is a very tiny catbutt.

It does not seem so tiny when it is perched in front of my face at 2:00 a.m., as Luna stretches over to the nightstand to drink out of my glass of water.

Our newest family member, Luna Isabella, making pals with my sweet old Petey dog.
She's 10 weeks old now, and is a 2 lb terror to our other dog, Clifford. He's a big fuzzball (collie mix), and she stalks him constantly, waiting for him to wag his tail.
